So what are our chances?

66

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona sighed deeply and says . . . So family Lisa what are our chances?

"Mona. Our analysis from the most advanced modeling facility of the known human experience indicates: If war cannot be avoided the expected human survival rate is between 1-5%. Meaning many species of animal and plant life will also become extinct. Without an increase of human fertility rates there is an 90% chance of human extinction. With a twelve fold increase in ovulation rates we reduce the chance of extinction by 30%. Not good odds but it may be all we get."

Mom, Dad, I fear our beautiful paradise of a world is going to be a thing of the past in a very short few years or months. Unless the Atlantis Alliance somehow returns to our traditional human values and behavior we are screwed!

"Looks that way dear. Dad and I have a request. We know if hostilities break out the Moon Research Center will be a primary target. Under no circumstances are you to risk your life or mission to come to our aid? Do you understand? Do you understand, Mona?"

Yes, but let's talk about that later . . . love you both deeply, I have to run and prepare for launch.

"Love you too! Signing off."

Suddenly, Mona is hit with a deep sickness in her stomach. Her head churns with despair. Then the familiar odor and flash of searing light! A vision appears on her mind . . .

The image is of canines herding mammoths that appear to be grazing animals. A hot air balloon is watching overhead with a sunburst decorating it. She cannot see what this has to do with anything now happening. It just seems to be an aggravation and irrelevant to the present situation.

(To be Continued Later, I will be traveling today so updates will be slow or may have to wait for tomorrow, have a great Memorial Day)

What Am I really?

67

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona, wonders out loud . . . what in the hell did I just see and have been seeing now for months? Strange visions many-times, some very disturbing. What am I really?

When I told Mom and Dad they were not surprised or even concerned. "Just a stress reaction to everything going on . . . a coping mechanism of your cerebral cortex. . . ". What do you expect from a couple of senior scientists anyway, Duh?

Sometimes I think I am about to lose it. Seems no one in the medical literature has documented such experiences or could be they are afraid to mention it because someone would accuse them of being drunk. I must be a real outlier on the old Bell curve . . . obviously I don't fit into a normal Gaussian distribution.

Mona just shook her head and went to the command center to make final adjustments to allow a fully integrated connection between her cybernetics and the Leviathan's control AI module.

Note: Dreams and visions are not known to the human race 32,000 years ago. In fact sleeping is unknown and not needed.

Leviathan is really female.

70
1,423

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona relaxed into her command chair and allowed the automatic reconnection of the umbilical cybernetics to initiate. In seconds it was done without discomfort or ceremony.

When fully connected Mona experiences a mechanized out of body experience (OBEs) or maybe what would be called possession or channeling in the thousands of years hence by a semi-sentient machine.

Leviathan had a personality of sorts, an awareness, but not fully developed in a way that would impose her will over Mona. Yes, Leviathan was female . . . her systems were nurturing and motherly to those sentient beings housed within her hull. Mona developed a sense of companionship with Leviathan and talked to her as a close friend.

Well "Levie" how is the day going for you?

"Very well, Captain Mona Ann Lisa of the World Alliance Mother Ship Fleet."

Levie, please call me "M".

"Will do 'M'."

Levie, how are the sea creatures in the upper cargo holds?

"They are all within the acceptable survival parameters, would you like the life-sign readings?"

No, I will take your word for it . . . let's review the pre-launch checklist.

Sue calls to say goodbye and shares bad news!

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona was working with Levie on the checklist for tomorrow's launch when Dr Sue Grammar of the Ancient Antiquities Office called.

"Mona, wanted to say my goodbyes before you launched because I know it will be three weeks before the ion drive flux will allow two-way communication."

Mona knew something was not right because Sue always called her 'Moan' when things were normal. Sue what's wrong?

"Well. Just got word my AA friend has been arrested and charged with treason. His sharing what he knew with me I am sure was why he was charged. I expect I will never hear from him again. "

I am so sorry Sue. I don't know what to say . . . his information was so very important to our understanding of the AA.

Did he have any last things to tell you?

"Only that the oppression inside the AA was almost intolerable . . . the elite were becoming less and less recognizable as humans and behaved as though no one was of value except their inner circle. They were absolutely powerful and without compassion or mercy."

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona bit her lower lip to keep from crying, how she kept from loosing it she didn't know. Sue, you are a brave and valuable asset to our planning committee, your expertise is invaluable and I am so sorry for this event, it is heartbreaking. All the more reason for even stronger resolve to resist the dehumanizations of our civilization.

Sue, couldn't talk further. She just cut the communication link without another sound.

Where does one turn for strength at a time like this, Mona thought? Levie, did you monitor the communication with Dr Grammar?

"Yes M, I did."

Have you been given all the prediction models, data and algorithms from the Moon Research Center?

"Yes M."

Do you agree with the analysis and probabilities assigned? Quiet . . . no response from Levie . . . Well Levie what is your response?

"No M." "The chance of survival is lower, even with the mitigation actions recommended."

"Recommend a first strike by the World Alliance, an all out attack on the AA assets solar system wide. No other action would yield a better chance of survival."

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Levie! Could you please repeat that!!?

"I recommend: Evacuating the habitats as quietly as possible, move the Mothership Fleet out now. Harden all shelters and stock them with provisions. Negotiate a peace pack with the AA. Delay, delay, delay! Move a permanent group to Ceres and to ocean floor locations and hardened shelters everywhere. Stock seed banks and arks, freeze food animal zygotes in mass. Genetically alter the volunteer women and get them to shelters now. "

"Finally. Plan and execute a coordinated sneak attack on the AA wherever possible for optimal effect."

Today we launch.

74
1,544

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona, meets with the crew and passengers in the common deck. There are 10,000 in attendance. Many others are in rooms throughout the length of Leviathan for a total of somewhere around 15,000. With another 200,000,000 from the a world Alliance throughout the earth, moon, Ceres and Mars. She clears her throat and begins. Mona is apprehensive but resolute. She realizes probably another 300,000,000 other people are also listening from the AA.

We launch today the fastest, largest, most capable space ship ever constructed by mankind. This ship is dedicated to scientific research and to the progress of the entire human species. We celebrate this accomplishment just as we celebrated the construction of the six low orbit habitats that circle our Earth. These are a visual reminder of our climb from the destruction of out first high civilization some 30,000 years ago. Today we are a civilization who has progressed for 8,000 years without war, it is my fervent hope that this continues unabated for 30,000 more years. I dedicate this magnificent ship to the search of everlasting peace. Thank you . . . We now launch! Release the catwalks, engage the starboard and stern thrusters, engage the harbor tugs. We are under way!

Mona, rushed from the podium as if on urgent official business. The truth was she wanted no chance for congratulations or questions either. The irony was she talked about the fervent search for peace while she planned for the most destructive war the Earth has ever seen before or since.

Now we sit and wait for the next step.

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

The Leviathan had moved almost 1,000 miles from Earth before Mona engaged the ion drive. It would now pulsate with a blue green glow not unlike the bioluminescent glow from the aquatic tanks in the upper cargo hold. The drives would fire constantly for three weeks accelerating from about 1.5 thousand mph to over 77 thousand mph. The Leviathan would then glide to within the vicinity of Mars before making another strategic maneuver.

Levie's crew and passenger quarters were overflowing twice the designed capacity. The normally empty lower holds reserved for returning the asteroid mined ore was full of equipment and supplies. This was to be a one way ride to for almost 15,000 people. A thousand more would be transferred ship to ship while in transit from Mars to Ceres making the ships complement some 16,000 people. That is, if this transfer was successful . . . a trick which had never been done at full speed between Mars and Ceres.

Meanwhile supply pods were evacuating personnel from the six orbiting habitats and facilities on the moon. The pods were stripped of equipment and carried five times the number of people than they normally did. The pods were then unloaded and the personnel sent directly under cover to underground and undersea shelters. The habitats were almost half empty when the Leviathan was launched.

Skeleton crews were left at the Moon facilities and on the Habitats with orders for emergency evacuation on a minutes notice. The automated area defense cybernetic sentry drones were activated to secure all facilities from this day forward.

Now we sit and wait for the next step.

The Prime Minister of the World Alliance

78
1,683

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

The Prime Minister of the World Alliance addressed the War Council three weeks after the launch of Leviathan.

"Captain Lisa gave a convincing speech . . . hope the AA was watching and took the message seriously. We are well under way accomplishing the first phase of war preparations. I don't have to tell everyone how important it is to keep a lid on any action that could telegraph our resolve to the AA. In their arrogance they must believe we are week and frightened."

"We must proceed with the second phase beginning now. Launch all MotherShips in sequence as per our plan. Cease all asteroid mining operations, return all ships home or direct them to Mars to strip the planet bare of all technology, supplies, and personnel. Moon operations will use our short range supply pods to accomplish the same missions. Any questions? Council adjourned."

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona, received an encrypted voice and image file with the proceedings of the War Council. The first message received since the ion thrust had been shut down. Her first thoughts were about her parents. She knew without asking that they would be the last two humans on the Moon from the World Alliance. The two thick headed, stubborn, addlepated old farts that they were . . . she loved them all the more.

Levie, status report please?

"M . . . all readings normal. Proceeding at 77,564.02344 mph toward Mars to accomplish Mars vicinity approach."

Since there still were a few weeks before the need to alter Leviathan's alignment with Mars (for the sling shot maneuver to Ceres) Mona had some time to think and reminisce. She knew her beloved wilderness near SpaceJump City may soon become only a memory.

Levie . . . after updating the most recent data from the Alliance do you have any change in our success probabilities?

"Only a marginal change M"

What I thought, but just needed to ask anyway, Levie.

Mona thought . . . I wonder what Sue and Jim are thinking? Their world is soon to crash into a black hole and no one knows if they will come out the other end. Mankind is on the very edge of changes they cannot comprehend.

MarsT200000

Mars had been stripped of most of its atmosphere 200,000 years before Leviathan was making its approach. However, the Alliance had been experimenting with terraforming the planet with plant species genetically capable of withstanding the extremes in temperature and UV radiation. They had met with some success.

The fields above can be seen within Hale Crater . . . Comparing images before and after the war.

2007 HC Summary-

The Mars Alliance was just within reach of the AA and could be attacked if extreme efforts were used to accomplish such an action. The World Alliance was not willing to take this chance. Mars would be evacuated.

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Mona, relaxing in her quarters was remembering her hiking with Jim in the wilderness when she witnessed the vision of the destruction of the first Habitat. That seemed to be a premonition of what might soon happen either through direct attack by the AA or more likely by planned infanticide by the World Alliance.

Suddenly, Mona smelled the pungent odor and experienced that all familiar flash of light. The next thing she saw was very curious. . .

Ancient Predator

What the Hell was that? Another literal premonition or some symbolic message. God I hope it is symbolic. Don't think I want to tangle with apex predictors with only a damn spear! Geeezeeee!

Levie, can you catalogue the images found in my cerebral cortex?

"Yes, M?"

Can you select those associated with the odor and light flashes and run an analysis based on the events since the first occurrence?

"it is possible, M. However, It will take some computation time because of their esoteric nature. Will need to access all historical records available in he World Library of History and knowledge. I presently do not have connection to the World Wide Virtual Reality Web."

Well, proceed at whatever pace you can. I trust your counsel Levie.

An unlimited supply of humans to use as they pleased . . .

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

The Black Magicians within the Atlantis Alliance (AA) were perplexed by the World Alliance's lack of preparation for a possible military action.

Since they had gone public with their offensive weapons testing on the Moon, the World Alliance (WA) had made no real move to challenge their actions.

The prize the AA wanted most were the six orbiting Habitats. With those in their control they would forever hold the high ground allowing a perfect perch from which their rail guns could precisely rain down their dumb (infinitely destructive) pellets on any area of the Earth with only seconds of warning. Making these Ancient weapons impossible to defend against.

Their unction to control the Earth and all the people and resources were now only a few months from realization.

While they were somewhat concerned by the enormous long range ore mining Mother Ships they were really considered irrelevant, since they had no significant weapons except for short range drilling lasers. Once the AA controlled the AW they would be theirs anyway.

The Magicians were over joyed by the prospect of an unlimited supply of humans to use as they pleased to serve their Lower Sphere accomplices.

Thanks! This is just a detailed story board with a few bits of dialogue. A real script would be more detailed and richer. Just writing concepts as I go . . .

They took 1,000 years to construct. . .

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

The WA war council had decided the Habitats would be fitted for destruction and detonated at the AA's first attempt to capture one or all of them.

Because of the Kessler Syndrome really only one needed to be explosively detonated and the rest would eventually be obliterated. This would also deny AA's easy use of any optimal Earth Orbit position to fire their rail guns. Because by forcing them higher they would be much less accurate and lower they would be vulnerable to WA's anti-aircraft batteries.

Never-the-less, the destruction of these magnificent structures that took 1,000 years to construct was an act of desperation of the first order. These were the symbols of human progress and enlightenment. It was too painful to even think about much less initiate.

The AA strikes first . . .

The World Alliance (WA) did not get the chance to strike first as desired in their War Plan. The AA discovered (with their long range recon) that Mars was being evacuated.

The Black Magicians were furious. They could not believe that the weak and stupid WA could pull of such a well planned operation right under their noses. Especially, when they had their Inner Sphere Entities informing them of their dark knowledge and extra sensory perceptions.

The first strike was on Space Jump City and their launch facilities . . .

Mona was walking into her personal quarters she now shared with the ships chief medical technician, Commander Linda Smith (due to the over crowding on board).

Mona had a searing pain in her chest and stumbled to the bulkhead. She recovered but an immediate odor and flash subdued her once more. She knew now it had started. The War to end their beloved civilization was now engaged.

The life and death of Mona Lisa on the Moon ."The Alterwelt Chronicles". . 32,000 years in the making!!!!

Once the AA obliterated Space Jump City they thought the WA would capitulate immediately.

They sent Commando Teams to selectively breach the walls of the Habitats and take control of these prized assets.

It did not go as planned for either side.

AW didn't get their strategic first strike and AA didn't get the Habitats.

Enormous destruction escalated with each miscalculation by the AA. They would not have expected the WA to have made nor to have kept their sacred oath . . . "to live as free men or die, and to die in freedom's defense without surrender" . . .

Several hours after Mona's chest pain she saw the first image received on the daily intelligence brief from earth. It was as devastating as her chest pain.

It was the same image she saw when she had been selected Captain of the Leviathan . . . she now knew (without doubt) she has seen the future exactly as it was to happen several months ago. What were the chances of it being a coincidence? Well she never had visions before? What is the explanation?

Were there multiple timelines or parallel universes? Could someone go back in time or forward in time? what?
