Mona’s mind was racing and her thoughts suddenly turned to the ThunderMoths, Petra and Tumbler. All attempts to communicate with the Unknown Spheres thus far had failed. All the knowledge and science gleamed from millions of Advanced Civilizations from thousands of Galaxies was presently useless.

Mona gave the order to seed the Spheres with cloaked warheads. She also sent out a distress message to the ThunderMoths to meet with LeviathanV as soon as possible. Her heart was in her throat.

Harry was very worried about Mona and of course the Galaxy. Over their long marriage he had never seen her so distressed. She was always the pillar of strength. Her calm methodical approach always gave hope to everyone, even in the darkest hours.

Mona was desperate for some spark of insight or vision. She retreated to the Chapel and prayed for hours. Nothing came, she felt alone and barren of ideas. She was in despair like no other time in her life.

Harry went to the Chapel to notify her the ThunderMoths had arrived. She was crying. She dried her eyes, looked into his eyes and gave the slightest smile. “Thank you, let us go to our friends.”

When Harry and Mona arrived in the large launch bay, Tumbler and Petra were resting in their usual setting posture. These magnificent creatures were enormous in size as they were the largest living creatures in the known universe. They were both beautiful and intimidating.

Using the universal translator Mona greeted them and asked them to forgive her for requesting this meeting. Tumbler responded: “Your request is not a burden, we understand the situation.”

Mona requested: “Do you know who or what the Unknown Spheres are and their intentions?”

Petra responds: “Our Species has encountered these entities before. They are called the FogDemons. They are devoid of the values most sentient beings possess. They refuse or are unable to communicated or negotiated with anyone. They are predators of the lowest form.”

Mona: “Do you know how they communicate with each other?”

Tumbler: “They communicate using packets of plasma, you would recognize it as a string of energy pulses in varying patterns.”

Harry: “Do they have a social order or leader? Do they have any vulnerabilities? What do you think their intentions are?”

Petra: “Their intention is to carve up the entire Galaxy between them. They live off the conversion of matter into energy and other byproducts. Being compressed, this Galaxy is a concentrated food source that could sustain them for millions of years. Unlike other Galaxies, we are very exploitable. In human terms, the Galaxy is box of candy or highly prized dessert.

The ten Spheres are like vultures. They do not cooperate; however, there is a pecking order. They have not attacked further because they are evaluating each others abilities and strengths.

There lies their vulnerability. If careful, one may turn one against the other. As is their history, they will attack a disabled Sphere because it is considered easier prey than a unknown and potentially dangerous victim.”

Harry asks: “We have seeded the Spheres with cloaked warheads, will these be effective against FogDemons?”

Tumbler answers: “It is my opinion that your weapons will not harm them unless you breech the Spheres’ permitter walls. The walls are very strong. The Spheres are able to ingest gas giants and red dwarfs without difficulty and digest them.

You must come up with a different strategy. The individual Demons when outside the Spheres quickly succumb to dissipation. They diffuse into the vacuum of space. They possess very weak cohesion forces.”

Mona asks: “Do either of you have a suggestion?”

MoonBeam addresses the Crisis Team: “We are in a most difficult situation. We have maybe one chance to defeat this enemy. With the information from Petra and Tumbler, we have detected, recorded and decoded their communications. As predicted by the ThunderMoths, the Spheres are bickering with each other.

We have decided to encourage the dysfunction. We believe no one has been able to decode their language before. Thus, they will not anticipate outside interference. By triangulating their communication transmissions we have located their Command Centers. ShadowLand Warriors and cloaked probes are now flooding into these centers. We hope we have enough time to gather critical information that can lead to their defeat.”

“We have named the Spheres from one to ten depending when they arrived. Number one was the first one to arrive and the one that ingested our inhabited planet. That was now ten days ago. No other celestial bodies have gone missing from the Hidden Galaxy since.

Sphere number one appears to be the most junior and inferior member of the group. The other Spheres are not pleased this happened. However, none will allow the others to attack the Galaxy because they each feel they deserve the honor to be first.”

Mona announces: “We have sent a message to the dominant Sphere, number ten. We sent an insult which appeared to be from Sphere number one. The message calls the older Sphere a coward and weak, challenging the senior Sphere to a fight for dominance. The Winner takes the lead position in the FogDemon Tribe.”

Levie added: “Dr. Dearborn was able to access a historical archive of the FogDemons and discovered accounts of the “dominance duels.” The two combatants ram each other until a rupture of the outer wall of one or both Spheres is sustained. If the breech is significantly large this can results in the death of one or both Spheres. This happens when the life sustaining atmosphere is lost into open space.

We will direct our cloaked warheads within the Spheres to the point of impact in both Combatants. The warheads will be configured to form a shaped charge that will hopefully guarantee outer wall rupture at the moment of maximum collision. “

Mona adds: “We will be sending a message from Sphere number ten to Sphere number one to prepare for a duel because they dared to feed on the Galaxy without honoring proper FogDemon custom.”

After the last message was sent. Spheres number one and number ten retreated to a location in open space in preparation for combat. All eight of these remaining enormous, enclosed Dyson Spheres followed to witness the battle. Number ten lagged behind and was the last to arrive. Mona, Genesis and Harmony followed in ShadowLand to personally witness the confrontation.

The two giants closed quickly as the others surrounded the battleground. Mona crossed her fingers praying the two would soon engage. The three had little time to wait.

As they approached each other, their gravity wells accelerated the collision. The combatants most likely had to use energy to slow their speed to avoid total destruction upon impact. The idea was to rupture your opponent without suffering the same fate yourself.

The first approach was a faint; both altered course at the last second, just touching each other. An enormous static charge leaped from one Sphere to the other and this continued until the two were thousands of miles apart. They then reversed course and raced toward each other once again.

The next maneuvers were just as spectacular. The two raced toward each other and abruptly pivoted into a broad arch. Their trajectories turned into each orbiting the other, swirling around getting closer and closer. Once close enough the static charges began pulsating between them.

Then the subordinate Sphere lunged forward striking Sphere Ten dead center. The Sisters observing the maneuver prepared to detonated the warheads in both but knew the location of them was not yet optimal. They now moved the warheads to the wall under the points of impact in both Spheres. They theorized that each combatant would attempt to strike their opponent’s weakened point with their strongest point.

So, instead they divided the warheads half under the impact point and half under the wall on the opposite side of the Sphere from the impact point. This way they felt they would have the best chance to match their detonation with any future impacts.

The bets were based on the feeding priority they would observe after the contest was finished. That is, who got the first chance to feed on the looser.

The thought came to Mona in a flash of light. She left Genesis and Harmony in deep space and awoke in the quiet room. She ran into the Command Center and interrupted MoonBeam and Levie. Mona yelled: “Don’t detonate the warheads yet!”

MoonBeam was completely startled and was speechless. Levie halted all her activity and turned her complete attention to Mona. Levie stuttered: “We, we were not, not at that, that point yet.”

Mona: “Good! We need to talk! Quickly!”

The battle continued unabated. Sphere ten and Sphere one continued their dance to mutual destruction. Neither could gain an advantage and both retreated for a few hours before re-engaging their duel. During this process the observing Spheres increased their trash talk and betting.

Mona and the Crisis Team were in deep discussion. Survival was on the line but significant debate was under way regarding novel and risky alternatives.

The Crisis Team decided to postpone the original strategy to facilitate the mutual destruction of the two engaged Spheres. They instead decided to attempt communication with the Senior Sphere when the next break in the confrontation occurred.

The Team knew the Sphere’s Command Centers location and understood their language, psychology and some of their history. It was always the Federation’s objective (when possible) to negotiate with sentient civilization no matter their level of brutality.

The only question was who would initiate the conversation and what would be the initial message?

Mona went to Maximus and Legend and gave them the proposal. Both listened intently but felt delaying the Spheres’ destruction was not the best approach. Mona, however, explained the existing strategy had a low chance of success and still might result in considerable loss of life within the Galaxy. An attempt to communicate with the FogDemons could increase the odds of saving life in the Hidden Galaxy. If they convinced the aggressors to retreat, everyone wins.

The two agreed to confront the Spheres in the decompressed Bright Sphere. LeviathanV would accompany them but compressed and most likely undetected by the Enemy.

The Bright Sphere approached the Ten Metallic Dyson Spheres without detection. They were concentrating on the ongoing battle while watching each other just in case one of their cohorts attempted a surprise attack.

Maximus sent a directed message to Sphere #10. The message at first was ignored but when a projection of Legend dwarfed their own enormous size all stopped their infighting.

Number ten disengaged from his duel with #One. The old Dyson Sphere responded with loathing. “How dare you speak to me in my language. FogDemons speak with no others. All are beneath us, we are the Gods of creation! You will pay for your insolence.”

At that moment an enormous plasma discharge erupted from the Dyson Sphere toward Legend’s projection. The blast harmlessly dissipated into the vastness of empty space. The Bright Sphere and LeviathanV which had been uncloaked, cloaked themselves and relocated immediately. Legend’s projection remained stationary as another plasma discharge flowed through him into the vacuum.

Legend responded in the FogDemon’s language: “Your wrath is misplaced, it harms nothing. I came to discuss important issues with you. Will you engage in an exchange of information?”

#Ten responds: “Why should I talk to an insect? You mean nothing to me or to my FogDemon Confederates. Leave us alone, you will regret this interruption.”

Legend: “I am not leaving until you agree to discuss your presence and listen to our objections. Any further attack on the Galaxy your species has assaulted will result in a violent response. We are not defenseless!”

#Ten laughs with disgust. “Please don’t insult us with your fantasies, no one has ever survived an attack from us. We do what we wish when we wish to do it. Your threats of resistance are no different. As soon as I am through with #One and feasting on his remains, your Galaxy will feel our hunger. Prepare to cease to exist.”

Legend responds: “We gave you a chance to be reasonable and you refused. We will do what is necessary to protect our home. So be it, you have sealed your fate.”

Mona was disappointed in their failed attempts to initiate communication and dialogue with the FogDemons; however, the delay accomplished several things.

First they now had better understand the language of the FogDemons. They were able to reassign and deploy new and more effective cloaked warheads within the Dyson Spheres. They also understood the Spheres had a primary control center and at least a dozen subordinate centers. All would now be targeted when it became necessary.

The Federation technical teams were able to access and download the entire technical and historical libraries from all ten Dyson Spheres.

The Sisters, Sam1 and his wife Dr. Dearborn were busy analyzing all the new data and had discovered the following. The FogDemons were not always these amorphous cloud entities. They were once bipedal hominoids similar to humans. They gave up their physical bodies to evolve into a life form free of the physical constraints that was limiting their ascension.

The irony was their desire for so called ascension removed the struggles that made them seek improvement and progress. Because they had arrived, they devolved into childish simplicity. Their life spans increased to almost infinite lengths without anything to challenge or stimulate their survival skills. They became brutish and arrogant beyond measure. They were superior to all other sentient Life Forms and ignored their right to exist.

They developed an insatiable need for energy to sustain their Dyson Spheres which protected their amorphous energy bodies. They literally devoured everything in their way. They first started by consuming celestial bodies within their own Galaxy. When that was exhausted they infected and destroyed multiple others. They were so ruthless and were so superior technologically no one could challenge them.
