UVA Student says"American" is now a microaggression

A Hispanic student from the School of Education began by declaring that “I refuse to take up [the] identity” of “American” because “this country has decided to take it upon itself to identify as an entire hemisphere,” which he called “the most blatant micro-aggression in the context of this country.”

Well, if you feel that way, then by all means, LEAVE.
This country, like many others before it, was discovered, conquered, and colonized. The people who did this created a free land for you to have your stupid ideas. Without them, you would not exist in a society free enough to to allow you to trash its heritage. If you are that uncomfortable with "identifying" as American, there is a border to the North and one to the South. You can also use either ocean, but i recommend getting the hell out.
