I did doze off a couple of times for a few of minutes at a time, and the work was just sitting in an office chair and babysitting an experiment. Maybe that's why I didn't hallucinate or experience anything weird. Quoting: Dr. Moran My friend experienced hallucinations during his time in our conscript military. Once during a several days long exercise in the woods with hard physical exercise and very little sleep, he started hallucinating about skinned horses hung up in the trees by their necks. I don't think they push the conscripts that hard in our military. Most likely a made-up story. |

It works 60 to 70 percent of the time—far better than existing drugs—but the mood boost usually lasts only until the patient falls asleep. As an ongoing treatment, sleep deprivation is impractical, but researchers have been studying the phenomenon in an effort to uncover the cellular mechanisms behind depression and remission. Now a team at Tufts University has pinpointed glia as the key players. gli·a ˈɡlēə,ˈɡlīə/ nounANATOMY the connective tissue of the nervous system, consisting of several different types of cell associated with neurons. When you stress the body with sleep deprivation it's a form of torture. Quoting: CMcC Well, I'm not forcing myself not to sleep. My sister has moved in with me and it has thrown me off of my routine, for the time being. So, instead of whining about it, I thought I would learn something. After 3 days you are barely human, head feel swelled and numb. I was waking up to 4am to go to my job and my psychopatic ederly neighbour was screaming, hitting on metal tubes and watching tv with max volume all the night. I had to leave my job to try to reclame my sleep pattern. |

It wasn't until the limb was removed and my pain levels dropped to levels of normality that I was able to get regular sleep, to this day it's not unusual for me to go 48-72 hours without sleep it is now part habit, a habit I would happily stop if I could. When I woke up after my binge I was in a abandoned cabin in the woods 20 miles form where I lived . I had shoes on but other wise butt naked , I found a old coat and walked home only to find every piece of furniture I owned in the back yard . The house was completely empty ! My neighbor told me he watched me move it all out 3 days prior and I told him that elves who lived in the walls wanted it all out so they could clean . (OP) User ID: 71347142 United States 05/09/2016 08:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow, stumbled upon this excellent article: Quoting: YanceyDoodleDandy Why Sleep Deprivation Eases Depression Not sleeping makes my depression far worse I would've thought so, too, but there is this to consider: In the new study, published online January 15 in the journal Translational Psychiatry, the scientists investigated whether this process is responsible for the antidepressant effects of sleep deprivation. Mice with depressivelike symptoms were administered three doses of a compound that triggers adenosine receptors, thus mimicking sleep deprivation. Although the mice continued to sleep normally, after 12 hours they showed a rapid improvement in mood and behavior, which lasted for 48 hours. The results confirm that the adenosine buildup is responsible for the antidepressant effects of a lack of sleep. This finding points to a promising target for new drug development because it suggests that mimicking sleep deprivation chemically may offer the antidepressant benefits without the unwanted side effects of actually skipping sleep. Such an intervention could offer immediate relief from depression, in stark contrast with traditional antidepressants, which take six to eight weeks to kick in. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 72180137 Philippines 05/09/2016 08:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I go 48 or more hours without sleep a few times a month. I do not like sleep because it gets in the way of things I want to do. I defeat it with 10 or more cups of coffee per day. I do some of my best work at that 30 hour mark and up. I would not drive like that, but I don't have to either. I used to have to drive in such a state and still amazed to have lived through it without hurting myself or anyone else. Never had a single hallucination of any kind. |
