All I see is how bad it is but, having learned a couple or so things about this life, there are two sides to a coin. Hmmmm...I think I'll try to find the answer from a few sources and post any interesting findings here. |

Quoting: YanceyDoodleDandy Your brain does weird things when it goes too long without sleep. I remember friends regaling me with military tales of hallucinations from sleep deprivation training. Stories of talking to people who aren't there, dreams merging into reality, and pink elephants. [link to bigthink.com] When you click the above link, there is also a video "This is Your Brain on No Sleep" I just crush down with a big headache and wake up in 2 days, but it is after working those hours on the overdrive. Lol..., I'm still here, can't even count how many times this happened. Good luck not to drop on your desk while at work. |

And the last time I lost this much sleep, I was very young. I had to work the next day and fell asleep on my feet, at times. That was HORRIBLE! |

More often than not, your body and mind will shut down before that occurs so as to regains the ability to recover and continued reoccurring deprivation can effect your health negatively. |

Also, keep eating and drinking normally the usual things such as regular food as well as water, tea, coffee, or juice. After the first 24 hours, all your humor and jokes won't be funny anymore. I think I was up for four days, and the only real problem I had was forcing myself to sleep at regular intervals again. I seem to remember having crazy dreams once I started sleeping, but that might have been due to something I was given to help me calm down so I could sleep again. I was at a week long family camp out, and didn't want to miss anything. (OP) User ID: 71347142 United States 05/09/2016 07:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK, found a few benefits here: [link to newauthors.wordpress.com (secure)] Not good or bad, just interesting: In another area, this idea: I think the lack of sleep and then finally getting some really good sleep will increase your chances of lucidity Someone who is named 42 said: I used to do sleep deprivation experiments in high school. I made it to 65 hrs straight once. I was an emotional wreck at around 60. The first thing I usually notice is that sound gets twisted. Then it becomes very easy to tune the real world out. I space out a lot when I'm sleep deprived. Like, not neccessarily thinking about anything even. Just spacing. I do also find creativity to be at a peak in earlier stages. But at some point, the brain kinda goes on meltdown mode and turns to slush. The hardest thing to do is to keep busy enough. After a while, reading is pretty much out of the question. Then even watching tv and movies becomes too tough. Here's an interesting thought for you to ponder. If we had, say, 3 suns in our system that were evenly spaced so that there was always light on our planet -- do you think we would evolve to never sleep? I notice that it's much easier to stay awake during daylight hours than night when sleep deprived. Even with lots of atrificial light. This person said: That sheds a lot of light on this religion ive been reading about. Apparently some primitive civilisation (i cant remember their name) use to take their initiates into the woods (in a cabin) and for 7 days straight they just ring bells, no sleep at all. They go into the woods afterwards and if the initiate can hear the wood spirits he graduates, if he dosnt they start again. Now im not suprised the poor guys would be hallucinating stuff. Oh yeah, fight club!!! I guess Edward Norton found advantages in not sleeping, by destroying the corporate world. This person stayed up for five days as an experiment: I did experience hallucinations, but nothing I couldn't tell was a hallucination. I would see things in the corner of my eye and I looked that wasy and it was gone. Also in the dark at night, i would also see shapes of people and I got paranoid, but they weren't there. As for hypnogogic imagery, I didn't experience much. but when I was really tired I closed my eyes and started thinking about something, i would have a dream while I was awake, and I could control it. It was sort of like a LD. It was pretty cool. And the sleep at the end was sooo good. |

I did doze off a couple of times for a few of minutes at a time, and the work was just sitting in an office chair and babysitting an experiment. Maybe that's why I didn't hallucinate or experience anything weird. My friend experienced hallucinations during his time in our conscript military. Once during a several days long exercise in the woods with hard physical exercise and very little sleep, he started hallucinating about skinned horses hung up in the trees by their necks.
