I would say so, maybe. Spiritual texts are a big influenced point of knowledge.

To comment about bible I prefer to have a verse and/or a few translations at hand. As a friend priest told me once, "Those that control the translation, control you."

That phrase you give me I have to process it under the understanding that everyone is connected & the center of their world. Its like a huge (and real as it can be) multiplayer scenario. All is connected, thou you are still the center of it (each and everyone his own "it"/YHVH)

You can be influenced from outside things (meaning of "without", contrary to "within"), but not so much as the things that come from you within, or the ones that you attach your energy to.

Those are the influencing matters.
What you think, say & do, and what you give and focus your energy & attention to.
Outsides, can only strive to steal your energy by making you resonant with those influences; what you don't attach/"obsess about" does not control you.

Matters not what others say, "if you believe it or you don't...you are exactly right!"

I often ponder on words being spells, and how perhaps we can sabotage ourselves through them.

Example, say you wake up in the morning, your hand is throbbing from a cut you got at work yesterday, you think about your you check your mailbox and a cheque you are waiting for didn't come, and an overdue bill is there instead, as you walk to the coffee shop, the weather is beautiful, someone you know passes by you and with a big smile says "good morning, how are you" and you respond, "good thank you" because the sweet weather and their big smile made you feel like answering that. Would your subconscious then remember that to you "I'm good" means that having an injury and being broke is good, therefore you cast a spell on yourself and if another day you say to yourself Upon awakening,"I want to have a good day today" then chances are because of how you previously defined "good" on that day of the encounter with the person, your day will then possibly have an injury on a payment or a bill will come through?
