Of course I don't talk about that part, but in my mind, I am building skills that make me feel like I'd have a better chance at making it if civilization were to fall apart. Quoting: LucyAnna I take archery classes. It's fun and I enjoy it, but I also know that if I was ever in a situation where I had to hunt, that is how I would want to do it. Even though I have only ever shot an arrow in an indoor range at a paper target, it makes me feel good to know how to do it. This summer, I am going to take some sailing lessons. I know that might sound silly and somewhat frivolous to some, but in my mind, I want to know how to get off land and live on the water if there were ever a reason to need to get away. To any normal person, this kind of thinking sounds nuts. However, this is GLP, so I wondered if some of you might be able to relate. What hobbies do you have that might become useful if Shtf? I'm one of the normal people that you describe. My doom-linked hobby is reading what the abnormal people on GLP have to say! |

Knowing how to put someone to sleep with your bare hands is priceless- it is also a great equalizer- a woman skilled at MMA can defeat many/most men who have no working understanding of the concepts. Locksport: being able to access locked areas/rooms/homes without making a bunch of noise might be a really good thing to know. Basic outdoor survival: minimalist backpacking will prepare you psychologically for living with little to nothing in unfamiliar environments- there are many schools teaching outdoor survival these days. Basic firearms knowledge and marksmanship: Many people own firearms. Some feel more is better, yet they have poor marksmanship skills and understand nothing about weapons care and maintenance. Psychology: knowing how people will react (sometimes before even they do) is priceless... understanding how to barter... and what to look for in a person who might or might not be trustworthy or "sane" will come in extremely useful. |
