Quoting: JustaNobody 59722041 just testing the water to see what kind of demographic we have going in this forum relating to my own situation? i can barely say i went to prison, i only served 9 months, in a TDCJ facility in Texas, the thing about prison isn't the going to prison or, being in prison part... it's what happens after. i see how much more difficult my life will be, for the rest of my life, because of some stupid decisions i made a while ago. i was one of the lucky ones and found employment only a month after release, i make very little money, and also with a wage garnishment for child support for 2 children...money is, lets say... tight, i have to get creative. way creative. but i'm surviving, and in reality, of all the piers around me that i see, i'm actually okay.. and i plan on some point going back to school to finish a degree in something IT related, i started community college years ago but didnt' finish because of something or other... basically, i'm trying to gauge how well others have done after being convicted of a crime and serving a little time... You have posted on here before... same basic story? Are you still working? Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. If this offends you then have a nice day. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32645970 Nobody wants you if you're over 40 and done time. You gotta get creative...really creative. i'm 30, when i got out i applied for every job i could possibly do, and was turned down by a couple of potentials for my conviction (financial crime/credit card fraud/abuse) before i went to prison i worked in the transportation dept in large casino making double what i do now.. so, yeah, the job limitations are very real for me. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18781417 Only sentences over a year go to a prison. They are VERY different. Start your own business, or you will never get over it. in texas there are state jails and TDC facilitys, some units house both types of inmates, there is basically no distiction between the two types other than some are looking at 6mths-2yrs and others are looking at multi decade sentences... same housing facility, different housing units... i was in one of these types of units, Lindsey Unit in Jacksboro, TX |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 23644193 United States 03/18/2016 07:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I do know that my background, however light, stopped me even from very low income jobs like k-mart. In fact, I will have my bachelor's next year and kind of feel it has been wasted time considering I'm not a 4.0 student (but I smoke most of them when it comes to ACTUAL thought and not just appeasing a specific teacher). I'm amiable but not a kiss ass and that doesn't seem to help to get a job. For the record though, I have 9 felonies pending on a diversion program (moving MDMA and LSD, Possession DMT Mescaline, plus scales and cash) Also a DUI. The way I look at it, I'm working minimum wage right now but I will make a name for myself in this world. Aim high! |

Keep your nose clean & your mouth shut and you may get back on your feet. You will need a lot of charm. People will never trust you but you will know. Those are the same people who never got caught. Me: Agg assult, false imprisonment, Grand theft auto. I only served 6 months... good behavior. Go figure. Still trying to beat around the bush 25 yrs later. They were paid well and they were great employee's. Very few problems. Ex-cons are grateful employee's. Once people do their time, they should be exhonerated (with exception to brutal crimes). There should be programs in place to give ex-cons a hand up, but there are too many others ready to knock them down. Hence recitivism. Fucked up world. |

But it was a different world back then, the only thing that really held us back was us imho. Today the cards are stacked against you with instant background checks, mass unemployment and mass immigration. Not saying you can't do it tho man, I see plenty of men in your position. All of them (that I know anyway) did the same thing. Temp services. Lots of leg work & even more luck and you'll be fine. Don't bother filling an application that wants a detailed account of your criminal history cuz they gonna round file ya as soon as they see it cuz they got 50 others with a clean record. The ones that don't ask on the app, be honest in the interview. Most important though, DONT GIVE UP! Reality leaves a lot to the imagination... John Lennon |

I almost gave up but gave a fake social security number and name to get into a medium-sized business in manufacturing. Now manager with 32 people below me, life is great and have no issues. Was hard buying a house with the SSN though. Good luck! |
