Iraqi state TV seized by Shiites, US base burning from mortar fire, Slide to Civil War accellerates!
News out of Iraq coing fast and furious. A US base in Bachdad burning from mortar fire, the the Iraqi Prime Ministers motorcade stoned, possible moves by Iran, and this news out of Iraq, maybe the worst of the day, sound like the downward spiral may be hard to stop.-

[link to www.bayoubuzz.com]

Fears that Iraq is barreling down the road to civil war reached fever pitch yesterday after Shi’ite followers of Moqtada al-Sadr took over the state-run Iraqiya television station to denounce the Iraqi government, label Sunnis “terrorists” and demand revenge for Thursday’s sectarian attacks in Sadr City in northeastern Baghdad. The program featured a live community gathering and was broadcast out of Sadr City, where multiple car bombs exploded in crowded markets on Thursday leaving 215 Shi’tes dead and 250 wounded.

The Sadr City takeover of Iraqi state television is a major development in the escalation of sectarian conflict, especially since the Maliki government appears to have been powerless to stop the broadcast. "We´ll obviously try to control them as much as we can, but when they (kill) more than 150 people in bombings, they have the right to speak," said Bassam al Husseini, one of Maliki´s top advisers. "What are we going to do? We can´t stop this. It´s too hot right now."

Shi’ite militias used the broadcast to announce plans to launch further attacks on Sunni neighborhoods as soon as the Iraqi government lifts its curfew on Monday. Many Sunni viewers were shocked to hear their neighborhoods targeted. "I got four phone calls from friends telling me to change the channel to Iraqiya and see what´s happening," said Mohamed Othman, 27, a Sunni resident of Ameriya, one of the districts mentioned in the program. "I think this is an official declaration of civil war against Sunnis. They´re going to push us to join al Qaeda to protect ourselves." Sunni politicians vowed to file complaints against the channel for inciting sectarian violence.

There have been repeated recent reports of Shi’ite militiamen dressed in Iraqi police uniforms carrying out kidnappings and watching on as militias carried out attacks against Sunnis without trying to intervene. During the live broadcast from Sadr City, members of the Mahdi Army apparently boasted that they were distributing police uniforms throughout Shiite neighborhoods “to allow greater freedom of movement”. This will only escalate sectarian tensions and further undermine confidence in the Maliki government which has allowed Shi’ite militias to control parts of the police and army, and has also allowed government departments to be run as sectarian fiefdoms.

In the wake of the latest sectarian violence, local support for militias on both sides has surged because people do not believe the Maliki government can provide a reasonable level of security. During the televised broadcast, Sadr City residents shouted, "There is no government! There is no state!" One unidentified Sadr City resident told the cheering television crowd, "This is live and, God willing, everyone will hear me. We are not interested in sidewalks, water services or anything else. We want safety. We want the officials. They say there is no sectarian war. No, it is sectarian war, and that´s the truth."

any one with an aunce of ligic , sense and reason would realise that this is all the work of US and Britain. For one thing, have you noticed that not a single one ever asks the Iraqi people to attack the British or US troops. Sure there are true patriotic factions in Iraq who are against the occupiers and want them out but they are a very small faction and have no power. The most they can do is kill a few americans. In comapason every single day 100's of Iraqis are beeing killed by bombs and yet only 1/2% directed at US troops. Ask yourself... why is that?

Hey I know exactly why it is, but if the Iraqi's are stupid enough to fall for it than so be it.

If they join forces against this OBVIOUS U.S made "civil war", and fight the cockroach that invaded their house and caused all of this mess than the U.S wouldn't have a chance in hell of winning.

But the U.S will sit inside of their air conditioned bases and emerge when the country is a smoking ruin to claim their prize.

Diabolical yes.

But easily avoided by the Iraqi's, if they just join forces.

I think the real reason is that the Sunnis and the Shiates hate each other. Saddams brutal regime kept this in check.

The US and Britan have nothing to gain with this turmoil going on or getting worse.

Much is said about this area as to its history and the development of civilization. In my eyes these people are entirely uncivilized.

Before the US intervened in Iraq by joining Kuwait in desert storm (after giving Iraq the nod to attack in the first place) and then imposing brutal sanctions for 10 years, Iraq was a country with free higher education for both men and women and also had the best medical system in the ME and among the best in the world.

If the USA were sanctioned for 10 years, invaded and all infrastructure destroyed, it's military disbanded and it's government officials fired I doubt you would be very civilised and peaceful either. Frankly thats something I'd love to see. New Orleans showed us how "civilised" yanks are when the electricity is cut off.

Al-Maliki to go ahead with Bush meeting, advisor says
Nov 26, 2006

Washington- Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is to meet US President George W Bush as planned despite threats of a government crisis Iraqi National Security Advisor Mouwaffak al-Rubaie told CNN news Sunday.

Both leaders wanted to discuss the transfer of responsibility for security to Iraqis during a meeting scheduled for Wednesday in the Jordanian capital Amman.

Al-Rubaie termed the current wave of violence in Iraq part of a war between extremists and moderate forces in the entire region.

He accused business people and Islamic organizations from neighbouring countries of financing the insurgents in order to bring down a democratically elected government.

Prior to al-Maliki's meeting with Bush, the influential Shiite and militia leader Moqtada al-Sadr had threatened to stop supporting the head of government in parliament if the meeting went ahead. Al- Sadr's party controls 30 of 275 seats and has six ministers.

According to al-Rubaie, the departure of the 30 members of parliament would not bring down the government and he said that the meeting had not been transferred to Amman for security reasons. It had to do with other matters on Bush's agenda, he said.

With Bush's meeting this week with Iraqi PM Maliki, and Sadr's threat to walk out of the government over it, Bush could be directly responsible for the collapse of the Iraqi government.

You could ask the Republicans bounced from Congress in the last election, about how Bush waited until the day after the election to fire Rumsfeld instead of before, that Bush has kind of a tin ear when it comes to political sense.

Why would you even go ahead with this meeting when everyone knows it could bring down the Iraqi government? If Bush wants to talk to Maliki, why doesn't he just call him on the phone? It looks like it could be another in a long string of Bush screwups in the Iraq War. This one could be the costliest yet, sending the country over the brink. And Bush will be directly responsible with this idiotic photo op he has planned.
