Both were registered as US citizens at birth. Both had a British mother and the right to live in the UK at the time of birth, because of such. They were automatically granted British Citizenship (being born prior to 1983 to a British Mother) under UK law, if they liked it or not. [British Nationality Act 1981] Regardless of their British Citizen status, both are considered to be British "Subjects" of the Queen being born to British mothers. Not sure that has any real meaning though. Discuss.

Even if she did renounce British Citizenship, of which their is no evidence, only the Queen can declare her not to be a British subject.
