Great book for Children RE: Washington
I spend a great deal of time reading. Especially about American history and the founding fathers. I spend time also supplementing my eldest daughters eduction with items I believe that will assist in her education, that the school system will not provide.

The book which I recommend is: The life of Washington by Josephine Pollard. Which was written in 1893. You can get a new copy today on Amazon so you aren't paying high fee's for an Antique book.

I like to read books, that i'm going to quiz my children on. This one captivated me. The art of language, words of Washington and fantastic facts regarding him. It really sets a good moral compass.

For example;

Washington wrote 110 rules to live by as a teenager, here are a few of those rules which we could all enjoy today.

1. Be slow to believe evil reports of any one.

2. be modest in your dress and seek to suit nature rather than to win admiration. Keep to the fashion of your equals, such as are civil and orderly with respect to times and places.

3. Play not the peacock, looking all about you to see if you be well decked, if your shoes fit well, your stockings sit neatly, and your clothes handsomely.

4.Make friends with those of good character, if you care for your own reputation, for it is better to be alone than in bad company.

5. Speak not of doleful things in time of mirth, nor at the table; speak not of mournful things, as death, and wounds, and if others mention them, change, if you can, the discourse.

6 Be not curious to know the affairs of others, nor go near to those that speak in private.

This particular book teaches children proper sentence structure and words they would not normally hear from their pairs.

Young girls especially should read books with this type of moral character set. It provides them with a glance of what a good man is made of. How a man should conduct himself. How a woman should conduct herself. Washington's mother was truly a strong woman, bringing up the boys after Augustine Washington died. That was not easy in those days, especially with a son like Washington running around and tempting fate at every pass.

Hope my recommendation helps those that homeschool or want a good book for their children.
