Both are unnecessary practices, but FGM is beyond barbaric. I don't even know how else to describe it. The vagina is sewn to such a small hole, intercourse is virtually impossible and urination takes place through that opening, resulting in massive infection in the tissue behind it by leftover urine and the resulting bacteria. When it's time to give birth, these women are then sliced open, then sewn back up.

You care correct in saying this is an African cultural black phenomenon, as you are not going to find this practice in Persian countries, Indo-Asian, or Mediterranean regions.
