Had the opportunity to help, but didn't. Now I feel like shit.
Lady in front of me tonight at the grocery store, goes to pay for her food, and link card comes up "insufficient funds".

I should have paid for her food. And now I feel like shit for not doing it. She had a full basket, and I asked the cashier, after the lady left, how much her total was. $95.00.

I have the money to do it, but it is already allocated for bills. But I have been very blessed, so I should have passed it on.

Just want to let others know, when the opportunity arises to do a good deed for your fellow man, do it without hesitation. The Lord will provide, as he has always has done. We just have to trust that he will continue.

Now Im kicking myself in the ass for not helping that lady. This will weigh heavy on my heart for a long time.

Don't do what I did. Help when you can. You never know...

It's okay, OP. God was just preparing your heart for the next person you encounter, and that is the one He will want you to help out. As far as the lade tonight, God let that happen for a reason. His will be done.

Did you know - Some people make it their day job going from grocery store to grocery store with no money, filling up their baskets and trolley, hoping that some good samariton will feel sorry for them and pay for their goods at that pivotal moment their card is declined...

OP,

Everyone reading your post has had a similar experience.

While you might feel like crap, understand that a sense of
guilt is a powerful tool. While you did not make a move in
this current situation, I am certain you will not hesitate
at the next opportunity (of which there will be many).

Confess the lack of action as sin, ask God for his forgiveness
and mercy and move on with an increased sense of purpose to
touch another needy individual's life.

Help the next one you see. If someone in front of me was short I would come up with the rest, I've done it over 5 times at least, a few dollars here and there not much though.

Went to buy lunch today, about $6.00. Card wasn't working, didn't get any help back. I'll still help people though that's just what you get with me.

Who's to say she could have paid a portion?
Who's to say it wasn't the only card and she went to get another?
Who's to say she needed to learn financial awareness?

True story, last year i was leaving Wal-Mart, guy standing on side of road by stop light, holding sign that said "anything appreciated, god bless", I got stopped by the light, looked at him and pulled out my wallet, I had a 20 and a 10, I handed him the 20 and said hang in there man. he said thank so much. light turned green I drove about a block down the street and pulled into Choctaw travel plaza, bought a cup of coffee with my 10, got back 8 dollars in change, walked into Casino part of store, stuck the 5 in and first spin I won 1150.00 bucks !!!! cashed out and drove back up the street, was gonna give the guy another 100, he was gone, no sign of him, drove up the highway, nothing... I wonder...

I have.

I won't hesitate to help an animal in need, but do with another person. I've been burned before...but that should not stop you from helping the next.

Been trying hard to be a better person and do unto others and stuff, but when an opportunity came, I didn't take it.

Wish I could find that lady. I'd take her to the grocery store tomorrow, even in the freezing cold, and buy her $200 in groceries. The price shouldn't have mattered, but it did.

Just wanted to tell others, so they can help, instead of doing what I did.

You're an coward and an asshole.

Probably too worried about what others would've thought of you had you helped her out.

The universe would've given you back 10 fold for that in due time but you are a punk coward and will have to "experience" that encounter again in another life/timeline all because you failed at that mission in this one.

I always keep cash (not change) in my middle console of the car so when I see someone with a sign I can give them enough to at least go buy a meal.

$5.00 as a value meal at McDonalds is like Thanksgiving to someone who hasn't eating in weeks.

Learn to pass it on and stop being so consumed by how others my look at you for helping the less fortunate.

In life, you get what you give. You just may not see it right now, but the universe pays you back when you do things from your heart chakra.

Since we are bearing our souls here now, worst feeling I ever had came this year.. I was driving back to Texas from New York, stayed the night somewhere in Kentucky, left the hotel about daylight , it was raining pretty hard, hit the on ramp to Interstate, trying to get up to merging speed, I saw a young girl, looked 15 -18 years old with a back pack standing in the rain, I didn't have time to stop.. Part of me said never mind, she's just trouble, I'm sure a cop would really believe that a 50 year old man just picked up a young girl out of goodness of my heart.. but all the way to Texas, I couldn't get her out of my mind.. what if because I didn't stop, someone who would do her harm did ?? what if it was my daughter ? would I hope some old codger with good heart would stop.. I can still see her im my rear view mirror sometimes. hope she is ok...

It's a good reminder OP, but 95.00 is a lot. If she needed food, she could have put things back and got what was necessary for much less, so I doubt she was going to go hungry because of it. Like AC5273793 and AC33549489 said, there was a reason. Don't feel bad. We all help when it feels right.
