As a surfer, there are very few movies that do the sport justice. Patrick Swayze nailed this role..

Re: Was it really necessary to remake Point Break?
The whole surfer-bank robber gang wearing masks of presidents faces was just a little hard to believe the first time around
 Quoting: Sweet Angel

Yes, it was until the Bush and Obama administrations.

I hope the remake has Bush, Cheney, Obama and Michelle as the masks.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70998112

You are right, that would fit very well.

Maybe a Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke mask too.
 Quoting: Sweet Angel

excellent idea except nobody would recognize Paulson.

he'd have to wear a goldman sachs t-shirt.

There is no way they can match the original. How could you beat Swayze and Reeves?

Re: Was it really necessary to remake Point Break?
They should only ever remake shit films. There are plenty of films out there that had a great idea but were badly executed.

Point Break is NOT one of those.
Out of this ugliness may come,
Some day, so beautiful a flower,
That men will wonder at that hour,
Remembering smoke and flowerless slum,
And ask-glimpsing the agony
Of the slaves who wrestle to be free-
'But why were all the poets dumb?'
-William Montgomerie

So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.

Re: Was it really necessary to remake Point Break?
The movie industry is just that: an industry.

Does Ford really care if you don't completely like the car you buy from them? Not really. All they want is to sell you the car.

Do the studios really care if you love a movie or not? Not really. As long as you have paid for your ticket, who cares?

If they could, some studios would simply do remake after remake after remake, as long as the money was there.

However, if you go back through film history, you will see this trend repeated. Movies made in the 20s were remade in the 30s, etc. Some of that was due to the introduction of sound, but it also had to do with money.

You are a studio exec. You can make a shitty movie costing $50m, hoping to gross $300m, or you can make a great movie for $175m, hoping to $300m. Which challenge do you want?

Except it wasn't a 'B movie' though. B movies are films that go straight to VHS/DVD/Bluray and never air in the theaters... Point Break took in $84 million at the box office while the film had a budget of $24 million... It did well...

If you are a director, and can get some stupid executive to shell out the money, then why not? Hell, if I could sucker some rich guy into paying for my round the world trip, I'd do it too. You know what movie needs to be remade? Around the world in 80 days. As soon as I can find some douchebag to fund it, I'm off!
