Florida Bill Would Keep Daylight Saving Time Year-Round

"As the 'Sunshine State,' Florida should be kept sunny year-round. ... daylight saving time shall be the year-round standard time of the entire state and all of its political subdivisions," the bill says in part.

"If passed, the proposal would take effect July 1, 2016, according to a version of the bill posted online by the Florida Senate."

Wouldn't everyone else in the country be confused by what time it is in Florida if Florida is the only one doing this?

I hope all states start doing this.

Manipulating time seems dumb now.

Arizona doesn't observe it. Why would it be confusing if Florida did not observe it?

Why doesn't Florida just announce that it is part of the Central Time Zone (Chicago). That accomplishes the same thing without all the confusion!

Because of the time zones. If a state falls into a time zone, people assume that it will be a particular time in the Eastern Time Zone, but Florida won't be observing the changes in "Spring Forward and Fall Back" on the clock.

I didn't know that Arizona doesn't change their time. Is it confusing to people who drive and cross state lines and find out that Arizona is at a different time of day than the surrounding areas in the same time zone? Do a lot of people miss their business meetings when they fly into Arizona to meet people and assume that they followed Daylight Savings Time?

I would just think it would be confusing to people who live in states that change the clock backwards and forwards an hour. Not only will people have to observe time zones, but they will have to know if they observe Daylight Savings Time.

It was only about 9 years ago that Indiana started observing DST.

Florida is in two time zones. How does that figure in? Would the panhandle still be on CST with DST in effect year round?

I live in Florida and would be more comfortable with regular time, not daylight savings.

Re: Florida Bill Would Keep Daylight Saving Time Year-Round
A long time ago, I knew someone who had lived in a house that was on land that was the border for two time zones. One side of the house was located in one time zone, and the other side was in another time zone.

I asked them what time they set their clocks for in the house. Did they set them for both time zones? The person answered that they just used the time zone for the school they attended and the business where the parents worked.

I thought that it was fascinating to be in two time zones at the same time.

It's like when I was a kid and we went on road trips. There was a place on the interstate around Chattanooga and the Alabama state line area that changed time zones back and forth and back again. I thought that was the neatest thing. I was easily entertained, I guess. We would sing the Twilight Zone music and laugh about time warps.
