I checked today and my county has had a total of 104 cases of CV-19 and 6 deaths.

1 new case and 3 currently hospitalized.

I live in one of the highest educated areas per capita, in the country. Top 20.

We're doing it right by looking at these numbers.

Can't argue with success.

I just check #1 on the list and they have had over 2000 cases and over 100 deaths.

I'd like to see if there is a correlation between level of education of a county and their Covid-19 infection numbers.

I'd be willing to bet..there IS a correlation.

Other than the Beastie Boys, some 90s rap and Eminem..I can't stand hip hop.

Anything that sounds like that, I'm not interested in listening to.

I do think the Beastie Boy and Eminem are genius though.

During Grammy's social distance 100th birthday party..I was talking to my niece who lives in Portland..and in the Pearl District very close to the attempted 'autonomous zone' and such. A very nice area. Expensive.

She told me they saw one of the statues being torn down, and went to watch. IIRC she said it was George Washington.

I asked her how that made her feel and she said, He was a slave owner..

I asked her..but what about all the other things he did, like win the Revolutionary War?

She said.. black people don't need to be reminded all the time that they were slaves..some people were driving by and some were angry and others were honking and happy.

I was surprised by her answer and that song reminded me..

I then asked her if she enjoyed Hershey chocolate and knew it was picked by child slaves to this very day. I told slavery was more prevalent now, than it was back then and use for even darker purposes.

She went and talked to Grammy after that.

A statue of George Washington was pulled down from the lawn outside the German American Society in Northeast Portland on the eve of Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

Re: Mad World
George Washington

Washington owned slaves, and, in order to preserve national unity, he supported measures passed by Congress to protect slavery. He later became troubled with the institution of slavery and freed his slaves in a 1799 will.

He endeavored to assimilate Native Americans into Anglo-American culture but combated indigenous resistance during occasions of violent conflict.

He was a member of the Anglican Church and the Freemasons, and he urged broad religious freedom in his roles as general and president. Upon his death, he was eulogized as "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen".

He has been memorialized by monuments, art, geographical locations, stamps, and currency, and many scholars and polls rank him among the greatest U.S. presidents.

Thread: Washington and Jefferson statues must come down says CNN's Angela Rye

CNN's Angela Rye called for statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to come down Thursday on the network.

"American history is not all glorious... George Washington was a slave owner. We need to call slave owners out for what they are. Whether we think they were protecting American freedom or not, he wasn't protecting my freedoms," the network contributor said.
 Quoting: Secretizer

Someone let Angela know that the man that organized George Washington's army that won the Revolutionary War, was a flaming homosexual.

He also wrote The Blue Book..still in use today.

She'll love that.

 Quoting: Seer777

Well known for his accomplishments in the French and Indian War, Washington was unanimously confirmed by the Continental Congress on June 16, and he officially assumed command in the field at Cambridge, Massachusetts, on July 3.

He designed the overall military strategy of the war in cooperation with Congress, established the principle of civilian supremacy in military affairs, personally recruited his senior office corps and kept the states all pointed toward the common goal.

For the first three years until after Valley Forge, the Continental Army was largely supplemented by local state militias. At Washington's discretion, the inexperienced officers and untrained troops were employed in a Fabian strategy rather than resorting to frontal assaults against Britain's professional army.

During the war Washington lost more battles than he won, but he maintained a fighting force in the face of British field armies and never surrendered his troops.

Facial recognition technology is just a small part of the artificial intelligence industry that China wants to pioneer.

I had a dream about Lolac last night. First one I ever recall having.

I only recall the end where I was walking around in a big city I don't recognize and looking for a bus to go somewhere.

I started climbing this incline like driveway and it got really steep where I was crawling on my belly trying to reach the top. I got to the top edge and didn't think I would make it over and slide back down, when he appeared next to me.

He asked me what I was doing and said I was tryin to find the bus.

He said, well, it isn't kindergarten. And then kinda pushed me up over the edge so I didn't fall.

Then I woke up.

Thread: How does if feel to be starting the long term SHTF?

'I Should Be Good At This': Agoraphobic People Are Suffering Through Quarantine With Everyone Else

Phoebe isn’t just worried for those coping with the disorder. “You can't keep an entire society inside for weeks on end and expect things to be fine,” she said. While her past confinement was agoraphobia-induced, it's given her insight into what others may be suddenly experiencing because of COVID-19 restrictions. “I've been there,” she said. “I know what that can do to a person.”

Dr. Cassiday said she's already noticed what were previously "little twinges" of agoraphobia "firing up" in patients whose symptoms don't rise to the level of a diagnosis. She predicted a surge in cases; among the mental health professionals I spoke to, there wasn’t a consensus on whether quarantine would lead to a spike in the disorder.

...

Under normal circumstances, going to the grocery store is terrifying and exhausting but doable. Now, because she’s immunocompromised, Hilfiger hasn’t gone in weeks. She considers New York’s stay-at-home order a much-needed break from the outside world. When I asked whether she was afraid of losing the progress she’s made, her answer surprised me. “I was hoping that I would just blend in with everybody,” she said, laughing. “[We’d] come out of our houses and [I’d] just kind of sneak in and blend in with them again.” After we got off the phone, she texted a photo of her business card from nearly a decade ago, adding “that was me.”

Most people stuck inside right now are eager to leave home. But for many who’ve struggled to get through the front door or found visiting a coffee shop excruciatingly stressful, it’s not just a matter of when going outside regularly is allowed again, but if it’ll be possible.

Thread: Has anyone here ever actually lived in a communist country?

^^

This is an excellent thread. True testament to what an ideal usage of an international forum is capable of..and what I feel the Internet was created for.

With that said..reading the personal stories relayed there, it feels like Communism would be closer to living in a deterministic system, while what we have here, is closer to Free will.

Free to choose, instead of having your choices extremely limited.

In the Determinism video..he talks about his choice to eat oatmeal vs Cream of Wheat that morning.

And that maybe his choice of what to eat, is still determinism based on factors that came before.

I suppose what I'm trying to say, is that your choices are far smaller and deterministic.
