Re: Mad World
On an unrelated note..my unmet desire to go fishing in March has manifested in me paying close attention to all fishing threads to live vicariously through.

One thread mentioned how tasty catfish is and having never had catfish decided to give it a try. For a Southern Style catfish you would find anywhere in the South..what is the best way to cook it? Fried? Blackened? Corn meal?

Bought some catfish yesterday and want to give it a try.
 Quoting: Seer777

Just had my first catfish. Reminds of a cross between the mildness of cod..and the light texture of trout filet.

It was grilled..accompanied by pineapple coleslaw.

My childhood was of regular trips to the lake and I learned how to drive a boat early on. Many memories of watching my dad dress catfish. Honestly horrifying to watch. Glad you enjoyed the meal though!

I went fishing with my dad..all the time as a kid. Had my own tackle box..

He told me catfish were not for eating. He said they would sting me..and full of bones.

The catfish in Oregon are tiny..I've seen the ones people 'noodle' for..and..

I stuck my hand down a clam hole once and got a nasty cut. Offing arm for bait seems a paradox I'm not looking to challenge.

Thread: Earth and Solar System Moving in Space, but Which Direction is True.. Around Milky Way Galaxy or to Somewhere?

My old thread.

Seer, what is your opinion about whether this solar system is zipping through outer space, orbiting the Milky Way or is just passing by?

My opinion: It would be awesome if is just passing by. Cause that is interesting and different. Kinda could give an impression that this whole solar system is like organic version of Enterprise starship like one in Star Trek Next Generation. Everything you need while exploring the universe.
 Quoting: Xlegic

Good morning.

I really couldn't say. I liked the idea of seeing our Sun as the engine on a train..pulling its payload or planets behind it, on a destination to somewhere..but I heard the helical model has been debunked.

Interesting about our solar system being captured and that is why the Milky Way appears at an angle.

We live such brief lives compared to 100s of millions of years..so it really is difficult to say. Not really my field of study or knowledge.
 Quoting: Seer777

Or galaxies have been jigging around this solar system as if it is a hot potato? heh.
 Quoting: Xlegic

Remember the Hubble deep field image?

I'm not sure if any one image before or after has caused me to feel more lonely and insignificant.

I watched this mini-documentary last night.

It was really interesting.

Camp White Story: Southern Oregon Goes to War

In the transformation of rural southern Oregon during WWII an area just outside of Medford, Oregon was chosen for training facilities. Combined with a work force and abundant building material, the Army Corp of engineers and local contractors transformed the property into a city of 35,000 called Camp White. The economy boomed and southern Oregon was changed overnight.

I'm watching this documentary again.

Medford is my hometown and I only really knew about the POW camp(?) that was in a big field all by itself.. on the drive to White City when going to the $1 movie theater.

Remember $1 movie theaters? Heh.

They called Camp White the 'Alcatraz of boot camp'.

Camp White

Camp White was an Army training base located in Jackson County, Oregon, United States, during World War II. It was also the site of a prisoner-of-war (POW) camp. The camp was named in honor of George A. White, who served as adjutant general for Oregon starting in 1915.

The documentary chronicles the stories of the troops that were trained in this "Alcatraz of Boot Camps" and the impact of the military base on the Southern Oregon economy.

Good article.

I was told it was a Japanese internment camp. I didn't know it was for German POWs.

German POWs on the American Homefront

“At first there was a certain amount of apprehension,” said Tom Buecker, the curator of the Fort Robinson Museum, a branch of the Nebraska Historical Society. “People thought of the POWs as Nazis. But half of the prisoners had no inclination to sympathize with the Nazi Party.” Fewer than 10 percent were hard-core ideologues, he added.

Any such anxiety was short-lived at his house, if it existed at all, said Luetchens. His family was of German ancestry and his father spoke fluent German. “Having a chance to be shoulder-to-shoulder with [the prisoners], you got to know them,” Luetchens said. “They were people like us.”

“I had the impression the prisoners were happy to be out of the war,” Holthus said, and Kerr recalled that one prisoner “told me he liked it here because no one was shooting at him.

I have wondered for years now..why more defemation and libel lawsuits against people that make up and speculate horrible things about others, with absolutely no basis in reality, seem completely absent.

I think this Web comic covers it well. You'll have to read to end..to get it.

Here we have proof that even knowing someone is a filthy rapist..keeps ones mouth shut due to the potential for libel lawsuits. She says it directly.

She was right. Now Harvey with his deformed genitalia, is in jail..because he was guilty. It was a just a 'known thing'..that people kept quiet about.

Because of libel.

Yet people all day, every day..make up stories and speculate the most horrible crimes on people, with no worries. While spreading that poison everywhere..and forcing other people to share in their disgusting speculations..while the real criminals and sociopaths..run free.

Doesn't make sense...
