My religious point of view is something I can't talk about. It goes against my belief system to talk publicly about my own spiritual beliefs.

Damn, I figured he'd be worth more than just 5 million. Drugs must be expensive ya know.

you certainly would've thought so.

kobain was worth 150 mil and i think they were on the same level.

strange for sure.

Anyone remember how if you let the 2nd album (Purple) continue playing after the last track that hidden track ('12 Graceous Melodies') would come on and start playing with Scott sounding like a lounge singer? That was an interesting surprise back in the day, haha.

I forgot how awesome the Purple album was.

I had to buy the no.4 album a total of 3 times because I basically carried that cd around like a teddy bear and it would get scratched to shit.

Well I was hoping to find some concert performances from back when they were in their prime (early/mid 90's). I can't filter my youtube searches and was getting mostly recent performances of them touring... As far as specific tracks I would love to see them performing Wicked Garden, Army Ants, Unglued - or even Plush and Creep would be fine. Thanks for your help!

I miss 90's alternative/grunge!

Butthole Surfers opened for them and I saw STP in 1993 at UC Berkeley when I was 18, just as they were finally breaking out. Yeah, I remember people used to always say that they were trying to copy Nirvana, but hell, the music industry was -picking- musicians that sounded like that at the time. STP were good at what they did. Did they change my life? Not much, but I enjoyed them while they were around. rockon

Mary Forsberg Weiland is the mother of the late singer Scott Weiland's teenage children, Noah, 15, and Lucy, 13. She wrote this with their help in the days after his death on Dec 3rd.

Posters, thank you for that rolling stone article, last interviews, etc. Since Scott was from Point Loma, San Diego there's a whole slew of articles about him a the S.D. Reader that can be accessed for free. Didn't know about the turbulence the man was involved in whilst in San Diego.

Re: Scott Weiland's passing... TRIBUTE
Thank you all, for still contributing :)

I have mixed emotions about the article the former Mrs. Weiland wrote.

Yes, we started seeing that downturn, again, as of late. I think we here who appreciated him most definitiely recognize the wasted talent. Hell, Chris Cornell is a feckin anomaly. Weiland had been reached out to by former band, too, kicking him out of STP several times. Including his past wives, people tried a variety of ways to help.

But there comes a point (as some of us have personally experienced) where we have to accept that we cannot change them. They are commited to a slow burn en route to ending their misery. Getting close to them is playing with fire and when you are born into it, as a child or sibling, it is even harder to disassociate. Hence Al-Anon or turning to drugs or harmful behaviors to ease our own pain, etc.

If and when you can successfully manage that disassociation though, what are we left with? We remember the good times. Hell, we may have even made our personal peace of letting go before they are physically gone. So when their "true death" comes, some of us may eerily feel a sense of relief for ourselves and them.

A select few of that group, who are so vexed with personal demons, possess a gift to evoke our emotions...painters, composers, writers, comedians, actors, musicians. So when, like Weiland, they have succeeded in ending their internal torment in their chosen manner, many of us do share memories in a form of tribute. We either remember what movie/song/book it was that made us feel, where or with whom we were at the time, or what we were feeling.

We tend to remember the good times, Ms.Weiland. The pain is done, for us and them. And with respect to d-bags only seeing the times he was down, remember this from another passed artist who had also had his demons:
