Yup the us military was down to the mini and the m16, they went with m16 but the mini is pretty badass. Google it with the arch angel stock

Mini 14 is nothing like an M4. Go with a Daniel Defense M4. Lol.

Fruit cake. It always ends in bloodshed when fruit cake is involved.

Avoid the older pencil barreled ones. They tend to be less accurate than the newer tactical ones with a heavier barrel.

If you're discounting ARs in general, I'd say a Scar16 would be the way to go.

go to your gun shop and pick out one that looks familiar, see if all the buttons are in the same places

I would add that technically, if you're looking for the closest thing to an M4 that a civilian can own, check out Colt (6920) or else FNs, seeIng as how they are the makers of the military versions.
