Joni is Canadian. Had great collaborations with many Neil Young, Graham Nash and others. She actually wrote the famous tune "Woodstock." Her album "Blue" is often rated very high in all time "best" lists.
Joni Mitchell also did things her way, and in spite of some commercial success, she controlled her music, her production and told the big record labels to suck her ass.
