ChinaTaiwan Presidents Plan 1st Meeting Since Civil War

Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Singapore on Saturday, the first meeting between the top leaders of the two governments since they split amid civil war in 1949, Taiwan's official news agency reported Tuesday.

The two presidents will exchange views on "consolidating cross-strait peace and maintaining the cross-strait status quo," the Central News Agency said.

No statement or any agreement is planned, said the report, which quoted high-level sources from Taiwan's Presidential Office.
