Something is wrong here. 7.5 should last longer than 10 seconds of shaking.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59448909

It is reported by many people that it seemed to last a long time.

If you look at the seismographs, the quake waveform takes quite a while to disipate.

Just going by tweets in your op. So maybe longer? Still strange to be so strong and deep...

Sorry dear, but my bs detector has been flying off the handle since this last greatest hurricane ever did no damage...

Perhaps the GLP EFFECT is getting stronger?

ps: USGS did downgrade it to a 7.5.

Tectonic Summary

The October 26, 2015 M 7.5 earthquake near the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan (SW of Jarm) occurred as the result of reverse faulting at intermediate depths, approximately 210 km below the Hindu Kush Range in northeastern Afghanistan. Focal mechanisms indicate rupture occurred on either a near-vertical reverse fault or a shallowly dipping thrust fault.

At the latitude of the earthquake, the India subcontinent moves northward and collides with Eurasia at a velocity of about 37 mm/yr.
Active faults and their resultant earthquakes in northern Pakistan and adjacent parts of India and Afghanistan are the direct result of the convergence between the India and Eurasia plates.

This collision is causes uplift that produces the highest mountain peaks in the world including the Himalayan, the Karakoram, the Pamir and the Hindu Kush ranges.

Earthquakes such as this event, with focal depths between 70 and 300 km, are commonly termed "intermediate-depth" earthquakes. Intermediate-depth earthquakes represent deformation within subducted lithosphere rather than at the shallow plate interfaces between subducting and overriding tectonic plates.

They typically cause less damage on the ground surface above their foci than is the case with similar magnitude shallow-focus earthquakes, but large intermediate-depth earthquakes may be felt at great distance from their epicenters.

"Deep-focus" earthquakes, those with focal depths greater than 300 km, also occur beneath northeastern part of Afghanistan. Earthquakes have been reliably located to depths of just over 300 km in this region.

More than 240 dead as powerful quake rocks Afghanistan, Pakistan
Los Angeles Times - Shashank Bengali, Zulfiquar Ali and Ali M. Latifi
October 26, 2015 10:41 AM - Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan.
-----------
A powerful temblor shook Afghanistan and Pakistan on Monday, killing more than 240 people in both countries as residents fled swaying buildings and hillsides collapsed across a wide stretch of the rugged Hindu Kush mountains.

The magnitude 7.5 earthquake was centered 158 miles northeast of Kabul, near Jarm district in the remote province of Badakhshan, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It is one of Afghanistan’s most inaccessible regions, where a massive landslide last May killed hundreds.

Afghan officials said at least 80 people were killed in Monday’s quake, including 30 in the eastern province of Kunar and 12 in Badakhshan. The death toll was seen as likely to rise because rescue teams had not yet reached districts closest to the epicenter, including some that are controlled by Taliban insurgents.

In the northern Afghan province of Takhar, west of Badakhshan, 11 students at a girls’ school were killed trying to escape their school building when the quake struck, officials said. More than 30 girls were taken to a hospital in the provincial capital of Taluqan, the Associated Press reported, citing a spokesman for the provincial governor.
...
At least 15 people were killed and about 100 injured in the eastern province of Nangarhar, along the Pakistani border, according to the provincial natural disasters directorate. At least 30 houses in the provincial capital, Jalalabad, were destroyed.

“Today’s earthquake was the strongest one felt in the recent decades,” Afghanistan’s chief executive Abdullah Abdullah tweeted.

In Pakistan, army officials said 161 people were killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and more than 1,000 injured. Landslides blocked the high-altitude Karakoram Highway, which connects China and Pakistan, in several places and military teams were busy trying to open the road, said Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa, the Pakistani army spokesman.
...
“We are still receiving reports about dead and wounded, and figures will go high,” said Muhamamd Latif, spokesman for the disaster management authority in Peshawar. He said that rescue work was in progress in affected areas. He said that tents and food items were being dispatched from Peshawar to far-flung areas.
...
About 40 minutes after the first earthquake, a magnitude 4.8 aftershock was reported in the vicinity.

A spokesman for the provincial government in Khyber Pakhtukhwa, Mushtaq Ghani, said hundreds of people had lost their homes and that authorities were racing to mount rescue and relief operations in the worst-hit districts.
...
Chitral, a scenic district in the foothills of the Hindu Kush mountains about 250 miles north of Peshawar, was one of the hardest-hit districts in the province, officials said. A police official said 20 bodies had been brought to the district headquarters hospital, while 82 people had suffered injuries.

The official, who was not authorized to comment publicly, said the earthquake also caused landslides, blocking roads in the mountainous district. Telecommunications systems were also disrupted, and huge cracks appeared in the sides of buildings.

Officials in Punjab province said four people there were killed and 61 injured. Deeba Shahnaz, a rescue official, said the “overwhelming majority” of casualties were linked to building and wall collapses.
...
There were reports of damage to buildings near the Afghan presidential palace. Shopkeepers and residents raced into the streets as the temblor struck.

“I've lived 57 years and have never seen an earthquake like this,” said a carpenter in Kabul named Farid. “I couldn't believe how strong it was. Luckily nothing in our shop was broken, but I had to run outside with everyone else.”

In the Indian capital, New Delhi, office workers streamed out of buildings and residents reported minor structural damage to multi-story apartment buildings.
