My thoughts are you pay peanuts. I bet the wage somebody would earn is barely enough to live on. That is why nobody is interested.

I've been in sales since fulfilling my obligation with the Army in 87. Back in the day, I had some $10-18,000 months, some 5k months, some less, one month I made 32k. I haven't made over 5k in one month in over three years. Last month I barely made 1,500. My house is paid for, but I moved down to save money. Their is almost no chance to make what you are worth.


The point of this is not that I made a lot of money, but that their was an opportunity to make a lot of money. Today their is no opportunity.

We don't need more minimum wage jobs, we need real opportunity.

To those of you that assume I'm expecting" high quality" or "highly skilled" individuals I'm not. I'm not expecting people looking for a career. I said job. It's not a place most want to work and retire from. High school kids, second job, bored people.

Hmm... You're right it's not livable, it can change everything for someone without a job though.

At 40 I took a job working on the dock of retail store at one of the malls. On-call, minimum wage and my boss would yell at me all day no matter how good of a job I did. He yelled at everyone but supposedly he liked me. No breaks but we got a lunch. Took the bus down the mountain that smelled like liquid garbage.

I worked hard and was thankful every day for that job. There are more opportunities in some parts of the country I'm sure but it's all headed in the same direction.

Oh and there are still plenty of girls there, met a lot of really cool people who worked in the mall...

I'm not sure how people think that getting an EBT card will be a free ride. Ya you can buy a lot of really good food no doubt, but there are other expenses besides food. I think you'd have to have a half dozen to a dozen kids before you could get any type of welfare that would be considered living half decently.

Do they use pre-employment 'drug tests' as a reason to invade privacy and discriminate? Some of us non-'drug-users' are tired of that practice and do better creating our own business - rather than support yours/theirs.

Probably cause people with self respect would rather make something instead of selling it.

This, and I was for a while in my 20s. I could take one more day working a soulless Department store job, one more boutique, one more waitress job, one more dumb college class.

I do regret not marrying the first rich guy who asked me. I was so dam stupid. Still am, even now I meet guys who can take care of me and I can't compromise my Freedom for anything or anyone.

There are sewing jobs that can't be filled al over the country, some at 15 and up. Even those Jobs would be unbearable to me; I can sew at home and make more.
The trick is the newer manufacturing jobs are in God forsaken far away places you don't want to live, like rural central PA, where the Chinese have started manufacturing here already.

I've had opportunities to OFFER people that would have been my dream in my twenties and thirties, and nobody is hungry anymore, nobody wants it except felons and rip off carnys. Someone could live in my home in exchange for basic repairs and mainatnce updates. Rent in this area is 700 and up for a crappy studio apt. I would have dreamed of that job, I used to clean for money because it's independent work that pays well.

No takers. I've tried to find travel companions, even offering to pay all the gas and expense. Nothing.
People aren't interested in sharing. They want you to give them what you have for as little to nothing as possible, then not be bitter when they show no gratitude or give back.

Op, even you arent this foolish. Mall jobs were great!......in the 80's.
But now if you arent making atleast $15-$18/hr you can barely survive independantly.

Back when in the 90's when I was making $100K+/yr, I used to think just like you. Of course I was never stupid enough to actually verbalize these thoughts like you just did, but I looked down on those who were not me. Now, many years later, terminal illness, family deaths, downturned economy, and my own PRIDE, I realize how God truly can allow your life to be a living example of what it means to gain humility. I highly suspect a few surprises are in store for you too, friend. And, when it happens, and it will, remember all the words that you said in this very topic. Your life can be turned upside-down overnight. You best watch your words and your attitude about others.
