They want traffic on their social networks......

No conspiracy. Many tech depts for media outlets are under pressure to get as many friends and follows as possiblE.

I work in media. I know nothing about driving traffic to other venues to make a brand more accessible.

All part of the pipeline. Complete control of thoughts and what have you.

CNN disabled, DailyBeast, many others. They say "Leave a comment on social networks" ... Okay, like anyone is going to do that. They don't want people seeing the truth, just listen to their narrative and be a good boy.

I find the offender and link their article on Twitter where I comment freely. Always works.

I usually read the headline and the first paragraph or so to get the jist of the story, then scroll down and read the comments for the real story. If there are no comments I don't bother with the story.

Good! I used to like the comments more than the actual articles; however, the vulgar insults to total strangers outnumber actual comments. We had two local websites within the past month give up on comments, and it was due to the vulgarity.

It's like any other "privilege" - if you abuse it, it gets taken away.

Most news sites have disabled comments on politic posts.

My theory is that this decreases the odds of someone waking people up in the comment section.

Has anyone else noticed?
 Quoting: AntiPC

Yes, I've been seeing this too. They're so disconnected from ordinary Americans and if they get a hit from Drudge they know we'll all be on them - they don't want to hear from real people and they certainly don't want them to realize they're not alone.

I also love how they close comments when they realize they're going to get a lot of negative common sense remarks.

Re: News sites disabling comments
I noticed this back in 2013 shortly after the reported chemical attack in Syria and Kerry, McCain, and Graham coming out pushing for a war with Syria back then. Remember then that Merkel even commented on the abundance of anti-war postings on articles posted on the main news sites. It wasn't long after that (really only weeks) that the comments sections were more restrictive and that you had to sign in on Facebook or one of the others in order to post anywhere anymore. It's a way of hiding the discontent and disagreement a lot of Americans feel towards the actions and policies of their political leaders.

This ties directly in with what Matt Drudge spoke of today on Alex Jones show. I do mean directly, too.

He spoke how the elite wish to have facebook and twitter to become where news is garnered. Ran by automation with no real thought. It will be centralized in every way. Drudge will be dead in a year internet wise or real life. Change is coming fast.

Everybody should continue to remember how fast they eliminated the Confederate flag. That was a test for them. It worked incredibly well.

When they decide to take the next thing from us, it will happen fast and it will happen efficiently.

Because the comments were the most interesting part of the news sites - perhaps the only interesting part.

Maybe the news sites with disabled comments will lose their readership entirely?

I frequent foreign news sites, especially French, and here's just one explanation for there disabling of comments. {BTW, one article from just an hour from reading it. Keep that in mind..)

" Your reaction

El watan has decided to provisionally suspend the space reserved for the reactions of readers, due to the proliferation of extremist, racist and insulting comments."
