But what will the cost be to an open cyberspace as the Chinese Communist Party pushes the idea of "Internet sovereignty"? ... But do we indeed? In fact, the U.S.-China Internet Industry Forum— which reportedly “[rankled] the Obama administration by veering off the script agreed to for Mr. Xi’s carefully stage-managed visit” — exposes deep and abiding differences between China and the United States over the integrity and future of the global Internet. Lu Wei’s promised shore of “cooperative cyberspace” is a distraction from the more pressing matter at hand: China’s effort to remake the sea of cyberspace itself, with the acquiescence of American tech firms. China is by no means the only party pushing for the balkanisation of the global Internet, and mounting threats to “net neutrality” have been the subject of debate for years. But no nation has so energetically promoted, in word and deed, the vision of national “Internet sovereignty” without the most basic respect for information freedoms. Remember their demand for gun control after Sandy Hook? Remember their demands for US filmmakers to edit movies that showed China in a bad light? (Red Dawn is one that comes to mind, for sure, but there were others) Also noteworthy how all the US CEOs were falling all over themselves to kiss Xi Jinping's ass last week. Coupled with the likely possibility of China's currency gaining reserve status, it's not that surprising they think they have a right to make demands regarding US policy. |

I sure do remember the gun control thing. It was like they had the copy ready to go. They gushed about how such a thing could never happen there because they have gun control. However a couple of weeks ago there was knife slaughter in NW China that left 50 dead! So much for gun conrol. And they still wield a huge influence on the movie industry. They also bought AMC theaters, which owns about 350 theaters in the US, so they can make sure nothing objectionable shows up on US movie screens. Last week in both Seattle and early this week NYC there was a real love fest. The stories out of Seattle made me want to gag. NYC was a mess early in the week with all of the big wigs plotting how to extinguish any tiny flames of freedom that might flicker around the world. Policemen all over the place, but now I wonder if maybe they weren't protecting the protesters from the predators. LOL There were thousands of people protesting, mostly against Bill Gates' new pal Xi Jinping from China (mostly Falun Gong [link to www.clearwisdom.net] and Obama's new friend Rouhani's ugly repression in Iran ( [link to finance.yahoo.com] It is demoralizing that these two evil murderers are benefitting from the official approval and support of our country. And worrying that the official policies of our country might end up more in line with theirs as far as disagreement with the government. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. And worrying that the official policies of our country might end up more in line with theirs as far as disagreement with the government. Excellent points! There was also a mass stabbing at a school in China ON THE SAME DAY AS SANDY HOOK. I had forgotten about that earlier when I posted. Man Stabs 22 Children in China By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSDEC. 14, 2012 [link to www.nytimes.com] Not Just Sandy Hook: China’s Terrifying Knife Attacks SCARY12.15.1212:29 PM ET [link to www.thedailybeast.com] As the gun-control debate resurfaces in the U.S., knife attacks at schools in China continue unabated. In a grim coincidence, a 36-year-old man rampaged through a Chinese elementary school with a knife on Dec. 14, the very same day as the horrific attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, which killed 20 students. [...] Yet, during all of this, China had the time and compassion to demand gun control in the United States? Why? Unless they plan on being here soon, which could be the case given current events. I was sickened by the ass kissing in Seattle as well. A huge picture of Mao STILL is the centerpiece of Tiananmen Square in Communist China, and all of the socialist vulture CEO's of American companies couldn't do enough to kiss his ass. Disgusting. Sorry this thread has gotten off track from the OP, but everything certainly ties together. There was a thread yesterday by someone who may have been the shooter at the Oregon school. Thread: Shooter at Umpqua Community College near Roseburg, Oregon > multiple deaths and injured > Shooter in custody (Page 6) This is exactly the type of 'good' crisis they would not let go to waste to lock down the internet as mentioned in the op, as well as make a renewed push for gun control. Oh, and I couldn't help but notice the Chinese one star bandits have been by as usual, lol. Gotta love'em. Thread: China Bots Are Real... . |

They are all over the internet, keeping up a good face for China and also collecting information for China's enormous database on Americans like you and me. Since Xi came to office the Communist regime has clamped down even harder on the poor Chinese internet user too. They have to register with their real name to get on social media, and shortly after that got instituted in China, here came Facebook with the same demand here, but got slapped down. And Zuckerberg is a big Friend of China, the slimeball: Zuckerberg, Sandberg Keep Up Facebook China Press Bottom line: Mark Zuckerberg’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and new China-related remarks by Sheryl Sandberg show Facebook is closing in on a goal of launching its signature service in China, with a breakthrough possible as soon as next year. Despite being blocked in the world’s largest Internet market, social networking (SNS) giant Facebook is using every opportunity to quietly remind the world that it’s determined to include China in its global footprint. Just a week after company founder Mark Zuckerberg met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a high-profile event in Seattle, his chief deputy Sheryl Sandberg was quoted at an event in New York talking up the big business Facebook is already doing in China. Company watchers will know that Facebook quietly opened a China office in Beijing last year, with an aim to courting local advertisers seeking to reach the company’s global audience of 1.5 billion users. That business is doing quite well, according to Sandberg, though the Facebook’s ultimate China goal is still its eventual entry into a domestic Internet market that boasts nearly 700 million web surfers. You do realize the above statement makes no sense, right? Keep trying though little buddy, you'll get the hang of it. I've notice that most of them only know a few words and they string them together in this syntactic spaghetti. I'm sure they have no idea what the words actually mean, they just think they are insulting. Maybe your kind comments will encourage him to actually learn English, and in the process learn a few things that will open his eyes to the truth about China. I've noticed that few of the Chinese posters dare to be as critical of their government as we are of ours. Of course, too critical and they land in a detention center for 6 month before they go in for a show trial at which they get their predetermined sentence of 4 months legal education (brainwashing) followed by 2 years in prison, Because they understand so little English, they don't pick up on the freedom of speech that we still enjoy here, or compare it with the limited freedom on the Chinese web. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles. I have a feeling some of them know the truth about china, but many do probably believe the communist brainwashing put out by their state controlled media. Not much unlike here, I guess. Lol, probably wouldn't help their job security to criticize the government while on the clock and on a government computer. And then there's the whole torture/prison thing to worry about. |

You're right about that job security, though they could probably find some really low paying job in a detention facility for them. LOL And then there is the matter of it being harder to get ahead in the world in China without being a Party member, unless you are really above average entrepreneur type. So being a My Party Right or Wrong kind of person would serve a young person well. Even over here. They get a lot of perks from the CCP while here too, including $$ for going to demonstrate, like in Seattle and NYC. *** Good deeds bring rewards, bad actions bring troubles.
