This kid knew it was suspicious, was told not to show it around, plugged it in so it went off in class and his peers called him a bomb making terrorist, which he claims was because of the color of his skin.....ummmm no it's because you make things that look like bombs to the average person.

Skin color, religion, gender, etc have nothing to do with him getting in trouble but they have everything to do with him getting gifts, scholarships and offers!

It is still only a timer and the housing. Missing one key component, the HV transformer to make the spark off the speaker wires.

Volts are FAR too low to ignite anything.


It is clear the kid stuffed the speaker into that wad of white cloth to simulate C4 wired in.


Even an RF choke with the speaker wire turned 2-3 times around might be enough to generate a spark from the back EMF.



This shows the kid has very little knowledge in electronics. The desire is there but the know how is lacking.

I have a few, they are GREAT for pulsing 5v into a flyback or being the trigger for a driver circuit above 12v.

Can easily program pot's resistance to calibrate frequency and pulse width duty cycle.

Makes for fine tuning the flybacks output.

From there, I use it to drive various coils or ideas to experiment with.



The only thing worth it on that kids clock is the transformer. Which is roughly a 40:1 ratio. Pulsing a 9v battery through the intended secondary side would push 360v out the intended primary (120v side).

From there, the 360v side can be fed into a coil of at least 10mH and the collapsing field will generate a VERY nice high voltage back charge. Route through a proper diode and have fun with it....


btw, some of those things I discuss will produce lethal voltage/amps. Don't do it unless you know what the fuck you are doing. Like never make a large layden jar with out bleed down resistors. If the resistance is high enough, it will still allow good operation at higher frequencies yet still discharge in less than a second making it safer to work with, store.



What this kid did was foolish and dangerous.

If that 120v power line was pinched in that pencil case, it could have electrocuted someone and start a fire.
