OP, another thought, i'd change out all the air filters in the house. Do you have forced air heat? Could something be growing in the duct work? Just a thought I had.

I can imagine how scary and frustrating this is for you guys, my heart goes out to you. I really hope you can find the source of the problem soon and fix it.
