and they are legal

and i think the above poster meant if you can detect alpha particles you dont ingest them - just the isotopes that emit them. and they are the worst. you can pretty much ignore gamma, beta and x-ray. They will mostly pass straight through you but alpha will interfere with the immediate tissue.
