Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37449803 It's California, they want to charge people who who bought electric cars an additional tax to make up for the gas taxes they lost too. Crap like this is one big reason I left that pit over two decades ago. This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. I like passive solar wherever possible for heating/cooling. plant trees/big shrubs to keep you cool in summer (south of you) when they drop leaves in winter, you get the southern light. plant evergreen trees/shrubs northwest of you. A constant windbreak to moderate temperatures. also, use heated tiles to keep heat and give off heat - this is not solar, just what people have done for many centuries in Europe. Anonymous Coward User ID: 35754137 United States 08/20/2015 09:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | utility companies are getting real crafty with the law makers of the Law, I now have to pay $1.30 more a month, just because CenturyLink phone, was told by the local government to move off the land, now I must paid this increase to help them move into another building in town.... It's total bullshit, but local law makers voted this law of a shithead increase for them, to cover their move what a crock, no one ever paid for me to move... btw, I asked about the phone moving increase, whether if it would be forever, well I got no answer from centurylink back, they said it's law and I guess the only course is to look for another carrier if I don't like it. now a days: The Business of Government is to look out for Big Business and their well being and profit line. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 60286023 Singapore 08/20/2015 09:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If I remember correctly, the water company did this to my parents years ago. My dad switched our house over to well water. We also had water supplied by the county. They forced my parents to pay a connection charge of like $15 a month just to have the water available should we need it even though we were using a well (which costs as much as it cost the pump to run). OH, and they won't let you completely disconnect the city/county supply line either. You must install a valve to be able to switch between them. I assume the power company wants something similar. You can't just disconnect from their service (who knows your solar panels may not make enough power) so they want you to pay some sort of connection fee even if you use $0 (or sell back to them). |

California has been on the leading edge of this trend for a number of years with legislators trading votes that lead to higher consumer costs for less service for campaign contributions and cushy 'jobs' and sweet insider deals after they leave office. Wasn't that long ago Cali utilities were offering incentives for consumers to move towards energy independence both at home and on the road, now they want to CHARGE YOU for covering your own ass? How long before they drop the pretense of providing services and become private taxation agencies? That's an extreme example I know but it's the direction they're moving and you Californians are the test case so it will behoove you to keep an eye on these asshats and make your feelings about known and/or failing that, vote with your feet like so many others of nus have. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37449803 When enough people start using less water, the water company ups the fee for water. The more we save in electricity, water etc the more we get charged because these companies are losing money. It is all about money and not about the environment. This is what happens when we have a world that runs on money. No wonder the environment is in trouble. |

Use less gasoline they raise highway taxes one way or another even though in Calis case that $$$ doesn't get spent on roads. User ID: 72084442 Dominican Republic 04/28/2016 09:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've got guys on my roof right now installing (hammering away!) my solar panel frame. My electrician was just telling me the other day the electric company is starting to get a bit nervous over people going solar here and they will probably try to implement some laws to slow it down or charge them fees or whatever. He says I will be grandfathered in, though. Companies everywhere will not go down without a fight. Right now, if I want, I can sell my extra power back to the company but they only pay once a year, very little, and you have to fight to get it. So I'm opting out of that. I've got a well, too, and at some point I have to go down and settle over that, pay for a contract and then pay half my present monthly bill in water usage fees because the water company owns the rights to the water in the ground. Here in this country they aren't as anal about tracking people down, at least not yet, simply because they don't have the money, the organization or the manpower. I came here because I was too ill to take care of myself but this is a great place to bug out of the US if you have some sort of income you can bring with you like investments, internet sales, etc. Forgive your enemies, it messes with their heads. Thoughts create, mind them well. |
