Any of your chdren get sick from pollution that comes from overloaded city dumps around Moscow?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74151628

Well, I'm yet to have my own children, but non of my friends and relatives are affected in any way.

I should note that the whole matter is overblown quite a bit. Firstly, yeah, garbage is definitely a problem. But unavoidable one. Moscow is an exclusively urban area with almost no free land to create its own dumps and garbage processing plants, so this burden lies on the Moscow Region (a separate entity similar to US's states in many aspects). And of course people of Moscow Region are dissatisfied with garbage from the city placed where they live. Another problem, that there's no free place dumps in several hundred kilometres radius from Moscow. Meaning, whatever you do, someone would protest. And the fact that people also dissatisfied with building of garbage processing plants. So, wherever the problem is dealt with or not, there would be some grade of dissatisfaction - and that's why it was mostly left unattended for decades.

If we are talking about health concerns, it's mostly about people living in close proximity to 3-4 of large garbage dumps. And while I do have some grade of pity towards them, my compassion is somewhat limited by the fact that many of those who protest live in new buildings. Meaning, they bought their property there being fully aware of garbage dumps and most likely thinking themselves to be very smart by striking a great deal. They counted on that the dumps will be shortly terminated and recultivated - a belief supported by realtors.

But mostly it's a political thing. This September will be elections of Governorы of both Moscow City and Moscow Region. So, now everyone is searching for every dirt -including a literal one - that can be used against acting governors.

hey Tamoten just read some insightful comments of yours on that syria thread.

wanted to ask you about agni yoga and the roerich's legacy in case you are familiar with it and since it s kinda hard to reach russian info on net due to the language barrier

Hi.

I can't say I'm too knowledgeable on the matter. Mostly I've heard of it due to the case of Master-bank and money laundering made with the help of Roerich's centre in Moscow. It led to investigation and confiscation of paintings.
It's not persecuted in Russia in any way, but apparently became home for some shady dealings sadly. Though it definitely looks interesting enough.
 Quoting: Tamonten

interesting had no idea about that scandal.
personally i'd be interested to find out if there is still some spiritual custodian of that school in place in Russia. cause i didn t find anything, so my only idea was to contact the cultural custodians vause for that i found some organizations in Russia.
but now that you tell me about that scandal i m not sure if i could find what i need through the cultural proxies
 Quoting: VenusRose

I don't remember it precisely as it happened several years ago, but I think that the whole Roerich centre was turned into one of the part of laundering scheme, yeah.
Personally, I'd recommend to refer to written accounts and so on. I do suspect that there are some honest followers out there, but it's hard to distinguish them.
Just one recommendation from me - if you see some organization with "Roerich" in its name actively demonizing Russian state in general, and Russian Minister of Culture Medinskiy - it means it's a part of organization I mentioned.

yes makes sense. i ll try to do some research and if your ok i ll write here the options i found. it s hard for me to do a more thorough research cause i.d need to check russian speaking sources and the Cyrillic makes it very hard lol

thing is that the spiritual lineages i connected most with are both of russian origin. one being helena roerich which even in her living time broke relations with the us teosophical branch cause she felt the other side worked for a different purpose.

the second is daniel andreev's roza mira.

being myself romanian i am of course naturally inclined to trust those with which we share quite a lot of things in the past, and also personal experiences strongly pointed in that way.

problem is in findng the true custodians of russian spiritual legacy :)

Several things.

First - it's a general female cat name. From "mur", a representation of purring. In one book a cow was given this name as a joke.
Second - it's a nickname for MR512 mentioned above, from "mr" in it.
There's also a river in Ulyanovsk region in Russia, according to wiki.
But mostly it's a name of one "street song" of "cruel romance" genre - a kind of urban folklore.

The nickname is most likely just because when you say "mr" it's easier to add a vowel between them, and "u" is the quietest one. And from "mur" to "murka" there's just half a step, since "ka" is a natural ending of a word in Russian. "Mayka", "moyka", "stremyanka", "veshalka" and so on. In past small children for example tended to call cars "bibika", imitating honker sound - don't know if it's still true though.
But the name stuck most likely because of a song - since the song its pretty famous (mostly due to some old movies), nickname stuck. Actually, the song is stereotypical. I think, due to said movies if you ask any passing Russian what songs they associate with criminals, most will name "Murka".

Really interesting thread here! Don't really get opportunities like this often. I have a question that I'm not sure you will be able to ask. Are there any more stashes of the Mosin Nagants left in Russia? I know millions were made and now the sanctions have brought all Russian firearm imports to a stop, but hopefully one day that will come to an end and I can grow my collection =). Happy Victory Day to our once and hopefully sometime in the future allies!

Is Putin really as good as he appears?

Or is he doing things to make himself look good so he can take over the USA?

Does he do evil things in secret?

I ask because I know some ex-pat Russians in American and when I asked them what they thought of Putin, you could see the very real fear in their eyes. They didn't say much - but obviously think he is very bad.

Well, I do think it's possible to find it, but you'll need to do a trough check - there are many fakes.
Also, small arms are not sold freely in Russia, so it may be a lot simpler to find it in some post-Soviet countries with more lax laws. Well, f.Ukraine for example.

Thanks for congratulations!

Most of Russian ex-pats left Russia decades ago. Don't expect them to have any special (from your neighbour) knowledge on Russia. They may know Russian, but political and social knowledge is limited to the media they consume and people they talk to. So, if they watch CNN or read some emigrant Russian press, their understanding may be no better than yours, duh.

Also with all anti-Russian propaganda going around, if you approached by some random person it's natural to fear loyalty check. Hence the refusal to discuss: there's no correct answer. If the one asking is some kind of an agent, you may be persecuted or forcibly recruited to some kind of activity with either of them - depending to which side's agent you encounter.

Your question is based on propaganda. Old and stupid one.
I won't try to guess which one you are basing it at the moment, so examples please. I'll try to relatively calmly answer each one.

But here's the general answer:

Hello Tamonten,

What's your take on Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Security, the USA government I think banned it during the end of the Obama adminstration, they even had it's retail stores purge all copies of Kaspersky.

With Edward Snowden being placed purposefully all over mainstream media years ago, regarding NSA eavesdropping and all... There was a Snowden documentary that told a story while he was holed up in Hong Kong, he sent someone to buy something at the local computer store to buy something, it was never revealed what it was, I suspect it was a copy of Kaspersky Security software...

Some in the USA do not trust it's domestic security software. What do Russians trust in terms of computers, software?

Do Russian computer experts or hackers trust Kaspersky products and services?

Putin years ago suggested that they go back using manual typewriters due to Intel CPU backdoors and other eavesdropping techniques.

I'm interested in your take on this whole subject! Russians general opinion of Snowden, does he have a Russian girlfriend, or is that his handler?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Well, I don't really use it. Mostly because it's too heavy on the system. Last time I checked it took from 30% to 40% of CPU on peaks.
As for computer experts - I do know that Kaspersky Lab works together with Ministry of Defence at least. I think it's a good measure enough.

Regarding Snowden - it may be so, but I can't for sure.
He's not very public here. Mostly forgotten, actually. Actually, lately he was only mentioned in regards of the Skripals case - that his security must be tightened to prevent some Western intelligence murdering him and blaming this on Russia too.

As for the manual typewriters - I believe they are still used sometimes. And even where not, in cases when security is crucial computers are not connected to the Internet and/or used some internal Russian networks. For example, I've heard that Federal Tax Service made their own nation-wide net over all major cities completely independent of any pre-existing webs.

Siberian Express... Vladivostok to Yekaterinburg for the 100 year Memorial in July. See some of Russia and pay my respects for family then back to Saint Petersburg with a short stay in Moscow. You up for a Coffee and Lunch there in Moscow if I can make it?
