updated firefox and all my bookmarks disappeared

Mine updated just fine, everything intact.

<<<Firefox 1.5 and up automatically creates backup copies of your bookmarks. They are saved in a folder called bookmarkbackups. You can find this folder in your Firefox profile directory.
To replace lost bookmarks, simply copy the backup file to your profile folder (one level up) and rename it to "bookmarks.html".>>>

Yesterday installed Office 2007 , Outlook has greatly improved over version 2003 and Word and Excel have brandnew intuitive menus - editing a brochure or a spreadsheet is easier than ever before.

The usual problem with bookmarks dissapearing in nfirefox is when firefox shuts down without closing first. It is rare the bookmarks dissapear like that but it does happen.

As for Distros and Microsoft they are appkles and ornages you can not link them.Also Linux is free, has a community in the 10s of thousands, it is growing all the time, the GUIs now are cool.

Internet explorer is a piece of shit compared to Firefox..And german guy Microsoft is no great opiece of work it also has problems and Internet explorer is always needing repairing here and there.

click on file
click on export
export to a folder

Now to place back bookmarks, do the same as above but instead of export choose import, find were your bookmarks are saved that is it. You now will never loose your bookmarks again.

IE7+ in Vista isn't that open patch-needed security-vulnerable wormhole that it is in XP, my friend.

IE 4/5/6 is scam - true.

IE7 is nice in XP, but its still a risk.

IE7+ built in in Vista is nice+secure, becuase it runs in an own environment, kind of in a virtual machine.
No activeX is allowed to have r/w access to the Systems folders.
IEUsers are limited accounts and do not surf with admin-privileges, even if you are logged into Windows as Admin, IE runs seperately.

Try to break it - you wont.
Vista is extremely hardened to all that waht XP suffers from.
The firewall now works different and a spywarescanner is running alltime in background as well as the other restrictions, too.

SO you cannot compare IE to Vistas IE.

It is the underlaying system that is different. For XP I would never use IE.
But I also would not run XP now when I see what Vista has to offer.

I will definately go and buy it next year. They have even cheap editions.

Can I open my Vistas contact-groups ( no, its not the "Adressbook from XP" anymore) in Linux ?

Can I use my Wireless Lan with WPA-PSK in Linux which has a netgear-chip that is incompatible with ndiswrapper ?

Has Linux a MediaCenter Software to let me watch TV from my Hauppauge PVR 150MCE card ?

With Windows XP it can hiberante and suspend and warmdock to the Dockingstation ( SelectaDockIII )with full ACPI Support.
I can use the modem,the Infrared and the serialport all at once.
I can listen to music.

IN linux this Laptop cannot suspend,it is only able to handle APM which results in no warmdocking or batteryswitching when it is on.
Most distros do not detect the soundcard and give me only 16bit colours in display.
In Linux I cannot watch my DVDs on it.
Some Distros don't know what a mp3 is...

Do you think I bought a awful expensive IBM Notebook to cripple it with a OS that does not support ALL the functions of the machine.. ?

Which distro will run on this Laptop to have all my features available ?

( hint : Ubuntu/Mandriva/Mepis/Suse wont! )
