They "circled the wagons and said "alright let the next SOB try this and they realize if this happens then they are dead meat". Unofficial circling of the wagons and a transcendental agreement that the "next guy who tries to trump them is going to beat him like he's a bag of fertilizer". Severin said when huckabee came along he was this guy.

Interesting theory to explain the press' behavior towards huckabee.

What would the press do if ALL the republican candidates behaved like trump and huckabee at once. Severin didn't mention Cruz, guess the press doesn't see him as a viable contender?

They thought they were going to use huckabee as a substitute pinata for trump but, instead they "broke their limp wrists".
