I saw a similar old video clip earlier today, OP. In the other clip I saw, it took only six days following the crash in 1929 for the scene to look like this.

Yes, in one day, the market crashed and people lost their entire lifetime investments. The early roaring twenties were a boom, and people were encouraged to put everything they had into the market thinking that the economy would continue to flourish. Within a week, businesses closed and companies let go of their employees. I'll look for that video and post it here, but it basically shows the same chaos as the one you have posted.
