I remember-it was on the "Fact Sheet" that USGS put out with the San Andreas movie. They said there wouldn't/couldn't be any tsunami's there as portrayed in the movie either. User ID: 69399939 United States 07/19/2015 02:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SF could be absolutely leveled by a quake of that magnitude. Most of that city is built on landfill. Quoting: Off Grid Lady Actually, it could be "leveled" by a much smaller quake-because of liquefaction due to the soil composition-not to mention the predicted fires. But because of the length and depth of the San Andreas, the USGS says anything over an 8.3 is unlikely. [link to earthquakecountry.org] [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Namaste!! I feel like the big article that just came out about everything west of I-5 being toast was a huge warning. It will happen, and everyone will still act surprised. I visited the Infinity Space Center in Mississippi a couple years ago and they had one of those rooms where they play a movie on a globe in the middle of the room. Anyway, it showed what a tsunami would do to Japan/PNW, how they occur, what one should do, etc. I kept thinking, 'why are they playing this at a rinky dink space center out in the middle of nowhere? Why aren't they playing this in IMAX at Seattle Center or somewhere it may help people in this region? We get warnings all the time to prepare and I only know one person (other than myself) who actually does prepare and consider what may happen. SeaCharger |
