I worked in petrochemical industry. Operators have very dangerous jobs. I started in plant support. What a grueling job. Kept me motivated and going to school so I could get out.

Way more dangerous than a cop or firefighter. One mistake and a lot of people die. Bad smells and 24/7 responsibility. Nothing like getting a phone call at 3am ( after just having worked 14 hours) that says "hey, can you get here in twenty minutes or should we shut it down before it blows?"
