Operation Bootheel Free medical/dental/rx services by the US Army/Navy to local citizens. WTH? J...H...?
My local news is reporting that the US Army and Navy will be providing free medical, dental, and prescriptions for a 2 week period.

Since when did the US Military, start providing medical services to the general population? Something tells me this ties in with a specific set of drills set to start about this date.

"SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A two-week military operation headed to southeast Missouri next week will provide free health care services to families in need.

Operation Bootheel brings members of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy to our region to provide free medical, dental, and vision services on a first come, first serve basis.

Beginning on Tuesday, July 14 service personnel will be set up at three locations: Sikeston Junior High School, the Lighthouse Church in Dexter and Malden High School. "

I've searched the net, but can't find any other instances of the military offering free medical service to other areas of the country. Either recently, or future events.

This is just odd to me. Especially with the date coinciding with the upcoming drills.

Nice of them; just don't let them inject you with anything. And lie to any intrusive questioning.

Could be they have come upon an area that is lacking in nearby medical services and decided to help out for humanitarian reasons. The US military is comprised of a lot of terrific people who often do things like this.

We are suspicious because their Commander in Chief does not like patriotic Americans, is hellbent on destroying our country and that name..."Operation Bootheel"?

EDIT--they've done this in other countries, usually war torn poverty stricken areas.

Other than setting smack dab in the middle of the New Madrid Fault line, there is nothing of interest in the Bootheel.

Why the name Operation Bootheel, since the cities involved are Not even in the Bootheel.

Does no one get the refernce of "a boot heel on the throat forever" from 1984 Orwell Novel? I may have the quote from thebook 1984 wrong, but "Operation Boot Heel", give me a break, just not my neck.

Maybe I'm reading more into this than is there, but...

Army and Navy? NAVY? We are dead center in the middle of the US?

Sure it's an impoverished area, but isn't lacking in medical services. Very large concentration of welfare recipients.

Exactly why they named as they did. Alarming to those who 'get it' but plausible deniability in geographic 'bootheel' location. They're laughing at us.

Maybe they just need to practice their skills.

Otoh, going to the center of the country just to practice is strange.

New Madrid was my first gut reaction.

New Madrid was what came to mind here also. The cities are the largest in the area.

There are no local military bases, or naval stations. Just entirely off kilter to me.

It's weird that dexter isn't using the high school, but I guess it's because that church offers free dental care pretty often.

I bet the one in Sikeston will be nuts.
