I can't figure out who I am?

Instead of seeing it as the ghost in the machine, what if you switch it and see the machine in the ghost? If the "ghost" can perceive the machine, then the machine is not primary, right?

What can be perceived is not who we are because there is always the one who is doing the perceiving, the witness. You are that.

I woke up this morning thinking that Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man was one answer to this thread.

I agree with this, but I think it's kinda missing the actual question.

The ghost in the machine and the little man inside your head are two different things.

The ghost is what perceives the little man. The little man is what is out of control, thinking thoughts and forming opinions and judging and whatnot. The ghost conflates its position and just defers to what the little man says without discrimination. When the little man says, "Not fair! Get revenge," the ghost goes, "Yes!"

The ghost (which has say over how the body moves) doesn't particularly have free will, because it has no actual will by design, is either serving the mind or the deeper wisdom that "happens" far outside the mind's jurisdiction (Jesus called it The Father).

Well, I was just going with the terms tossed out by the poster. As I see it, the ghost (Spirit) has no skin in the game, but is the witness. It's not serving the mind and it's not affected by the body or the mind. It just Is.

The problems come in when we identify it with the body/mind. The conditions, circumstances, thoughts, feelings, etc. all rise and fall and are therefore impermanent and not who we are. Neti, neti.
