The supply chain, you see, is very long - it takes up to two weeks for the gasoline produced at the lower per barrel price to reach the pump. That's why you don't see an immediate drop in gas prices when oil falls.

On the other hand, the supply chain is so short due to just in time stocks that the rise in oil prices is reflected at the pump within 24 hours of the price of a barrel of oil going up. Really, there's nothing we can do about that.
