I only asked because I rarely, if ever, see you on other threads (outside of religion & LGBT issues) and, if I recall correctly, you're not exactly new around here. I believe there is likely a source. It's been readily accepted in the study of sociology for almost 20 years. In cultures where the elderly remain a part of society in a different role or capacity, tending to the village children, weaving, or cooking if possible, elderly tend to live longer happier lives. Even in comparison to the United States. I will look up the study when I get home. But there is a village that have an extraordinary number of people over 90 they all work within the village in some capacity. My parents have no inclination to retire. They started three day weekends and feel unfullied. Frankly the idea that you can work enough by 65 to live comfortably for another 30 years is crazy in a social sense. No society has been able to sustain that idea. And developmentally its in direct opposition to integrity vs despair. Elderly people surrounded by only elderly people as retirement villages and senior centers make people feel old. (study, can not site Now :book) Many elderly people say that once they feel they have lost direction in their contribution to the world they feel DONE. (same study, and about a hundred Pt) Of course this is hard to apply to the United States where we don't even know our neighbors let alone our town or block. We trade our time for food and board. And at a certain time people Just want to stop. And I guess I can't blame them. But the body was actually made to work until the end. Its Good for the mind and health. Basic sociology, psychology, and geriatrics. Volunteering with children is actually the best health wise. So if you mean work by must receive paycheck... No not necessarily, but work as is get up and contribute to the world. Yes. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. Before I retired, I had a chance to read a book "Should I retire?" by a guy named Preston who was in charge of Psychology Dept. in the state of Maryland back in the 50s. He very wisely describes every personality and determines if this type is "retirement able". Well, I qualified, and at 45 I left joyfully. I have never had to look back and regret. These guys want you to continue to work to earn money and give it to them, they are leeches, You are going to regret it if you keep working till you drop. It's not fun, you don't enjoy your life and you are never home to get to know your family because your always working. My own father did this, one day, it was all over, he "never retired". Dead six months after he was notified of his terminal condition. Never enjoyed one day of peace, never collected one Social Security check. The poor man didn't know what to do with free time. I decided right then and there I would not allow myself to be destroyed in the same manner. Don't believe these people, they have an agenda for your enslavement. |
