Meanwhile we had 4 judges killed in North Sinai, the snackbars are taking their revenge, bracing myself for more after this death sentence. That reminds me, maybe I should go stock up on essentials...(beer and toilet paper) [link to www.bbc.com] An Egyptian court has pronounced death sentences on ousted president Mohammed Morsi and more than 100 other people over a mass prison break in 2011. Morsi is already serving a 20-year prison term for ordering the arrest and torture of protesters while in power. Egypt's religious authorities will now have to give their opinion before the sentence can be carried out. Morsi's supporters from his Muslim Brotherhood movement have described the charges against him as "farcical". He was deposed by the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule. Since then, the authorities have banned the Muslim Brotherhood and arrested thousands of his supporters. Quoting: Alobe He doesn't have that large of a following anymore, I've been over this alot how the election went down. He lost alot of supporters during his Presidency and afterwards when his terrorists unleashed hell, and so they did since his ouster. The only response of course will be violence as usual. An election under military rule and how things were at this point and basically being held at gunpoint (i.e. threats from the MB's and Islamists if Morsi doesn't win there will be blood in the streets of Egypt etc.), you can hardly call that "democratic elections" - not to mention how many boycotted, less than 1/3 of the electorate actually voted for him, and only because they didn't want Shafiq as they saw him as a old Regime guy. And if you look what he received the death sentence for...a criminal who broke out of prison during January 25 Revolution with help of foreign agents (Hamas) incl. about 20,000 others...and then as a "fugitive" runs for President. And he was the 2nd choice after first MB guy Shater was disqualified due to his criminal past and another Islamist due to his parent's dual US citizenship. Probably no chance, since I think Nat Geo is still supporting him (he knows about too many of the skeletons in their closet). I don't really want to see him hanged though. A global lifetime ban against appearing on television ever again would be really cool though. aHEMagain ps: what was it about this prison break that makes it worthy of the death penalty? It was also a charge of conspiring with a foreign group, namely Hamans, 20,000 prisoners were released, many Islamists and banned MB guys, and they are directly responsible for alot of the violence that happened. (OP) User ID: 69242932 Egypt 05/16/2015 01:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | More details here [link to english.ahram.org.eg] Cairo Criminal Court on Saturday issued a preliminary death sentence to former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and 105 other defendants in the trial known in the Egyptian media as the Natroun jailbreak case. The court has sent its decision in the Natroun case to the country's grand mufti, a senior Muslim cleric, for a consultative review as required by Egyptian law, setting 2 June as a date for a final verdict. The court also issued a preliminary death sentence to Brotherhood leaders Mohamed El-Beltagy and Khairat El-Shater along with 14 others in the trial known as the "Hamas espionage case." The court also sent its decision in this case to the grand mufti for a consultative review. The deadline for a final verdict is also 2 June. In the Natroun jailbreak case, the prosecution charged Morsi and co-defendants with damaging and setting fire to prison buildings, murder, attempted murder, looting prison weapons depots and releasing prisoners. The prisoners, who broke out of jail in 2011, include members of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Lebanon's Hezbullah, jihadists, Muslim Brotherhood members and varied criminals, according to the prosecution.
