Is humour a veil? | |

It is said about new truths, that first the population will laugh, then they will mock, then they will finally accept. Exploring the truths spoken by Seinfeld, are they actually funny, or simply just true, but spoken in a way of the comedians self mockery, to engage the audience into laughter? Does the laughter avoid the conciousness actually considering "is this premise true"? Is humour a backward world that will depart from us? If humour is a release, what is it we are being released from? If we did not need this release, then what need would there be for humour? There appears to be a competition of sorts, of who can make people laugh the most, but is this a competition that will endure, when does the novelty expire? Is the comedian simply like a salesman that sells his own pride, tickling the emotions of a receptive audience, walking the fine line of insult? When humans can no longer be insulted, then what job does the comedian have? What are humans hiding from with this veil? Is it but another tradition humans defend, simply because it has always been? Terrifying Brave new World, you will come whether we like it or not!
