1000 year old Anglo Saxon text gives cure to MRSA ...
.. And more ..

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND—A ninth-century Anglo-Saxon remedy for eye infections has been found to kill the modern-day superbug MRSA and disrupt naturally antibiotic-resistant biofilms in tests conducted by researchers from The University of Nottingham and Texas Tech University.

using a copper vessel as they said, is important.
A chef I knew did not believe the old wives tale of whipping egg whites in a copper bowl for better results because the reasons given in many cookbooks did not make sense.

But he tried it, and it really helps. No matter that the cookbooks gave the wrong reasons.

the proof was in the pudding!

It really saddens me to know we have lost so much.

Chinese medicine is said to have been able to diagnose illnesses by the characteristics of wrist pulses - they had over 30 varieties of pulses, each linked to an illness.

More recently, before all the technology, leeches were used to stop blood clots in blood vessels.

you put the leech over the spot, let them feed, and it would dissolve it. Well known in Germany.

now there is a cream made with the ingredient in the leeches saliva that prevents clotting - Hiruduine or similar was the name.

1970s nursing school in Germany.

Yes, you are right. It is so sad all the knowledge we have lost only because all of a sudden something more "technically" (more money making) was considered the cure. I am convinced that for everything there is a natural remedy, the combination of the ingredients is of great importance.
During my nursing studies up to now I have always enjoyed reading about old cures and folk medicine. Also the different diagnostic methods, there are so many of them. Iris reading is most interesting too.
A lot of today we bring onto ourselves, also known as "generation sagrotan" here in germany
I am confident we will rediscover.

My immune system is shot from being on antibiotics for my ears as a kid .. They do nothing or me .. I haven't used antibiotics in years and I feel a lot better ..

Strep throat is gone is 2-3 days with fresh lemons 6x a day (half a lemon squeezed)

Sweet I will have to look that up .. I heard something else I can't remember about it ..

Cinnamon works well for arthritis.. Topically .. I usually buy it in tiger dragon balm .. But you can make your own with Vaseline .. (Not on open wounds lol) .. Good for hands .. Neck, back, knees, joints, etc

It also does the opposite if you put the same mix liberally on your lips .. For all the ladies and plumps them up .. Makeup companies are just picking up on that ..

Cayenne can stop a heart attack ..

Grow your own fruits and herbs if you are able to :) I tend my own garden since years and it is really beneficial!
I have also read something which sounded very interesting and I will try it this year:

Before planting seeds, they are usually soaked in water. Now I have read that if you take the seeds in your mouth and let them soak there for 9 minutes (it takes about 9 minutes for the seed to "wake up") the seed will learn about you and about the composition of your body. With this information the seed will be able to develop its fruits composed to your body´s need. So, for instance the benefit of a tomato for you would increase because this tomato will have just the right bits of this and that according to your body.

Wow! I forgot Sagrotan!

the leech lesson included how they would be shipped - in glass tubes - and how you would prod them out of the tubes with a little glass rod - a Staebchen - and then how they would be disposed of.

We never saw the leeches in action though.

Hoerensiemal - that was a blast from the past - Sagrotan

Maybe we should open a thread where we collect old wisdoms and cures from around the world!
Many things where and still are just discarded as old "superstition" but as we can see, there is something to it. And many things seem to beat todays "standards" by far in the way of availability and effectiveness (costs as well). hf

That sounds nice with your gram hf I think such a live is really enjoyable. You focus on what matters and not on all that silly stuff you have to keep yourself busy with most of the time.
I hope you can manage to get your greenhouse soon!!
Last year I build a nice greenhouse, similar to this, just larger [link to bilder.afterbuy.de]
It isn't very solid as the wind keeps trying to blow away currently, but its great for growing :) I raise tomatoes and cucumber from seeds and plant them in the greenhouse, starting to raise in march and will plant in late april/may. First fruits appear from june up until end of august. I just use "normal" earth and compost.
I dont pull out and throw away old plant parts after the season, I would leave them there (maybe uproot and spread them) and they will fertilize the earth again :)
This year I also planted lots of large growing wild berry bushes, all eatable and if not used the birds would love them too. There are also a variety of veg which you can harvest in the winter months as they need frost (like sprouts), leek , celery and beets can also stay in the ground until it freezes.

I would love to live natural in most ways, but the way "the system" is makes it not that easy as it could be :(

Wow that is nice! .. You are doing great ... You have a green thumb .. That sounds a lot like my garden ..

Oddly I have never been able to grow a beet or watermelon .. I have growing here at my house for about 5 years, although I just moved in thanks to a fire and GLP :) ..

I share driveway with an 80 year old woman and told me the earth will not grow certain things and she was right .. She is the wealth of knowledge..

I was lucky to find some dumped their trash decades ago and the earth is great ..

I use seventh generation mint an lavender dish soap (couple drops) in water for a pesticide on my plants .. I shake cayenne pepper on the ground to keep the critters away .. And lined it with sage and lavender because animals hate the smell ..

I have to kind of barter with the deer and bears .. So I take all my extra seedlings and I plant them outside of that .. And I um urinate around all that .. Hahaha .. Can't lie ..

Oddly for Connecticut .. I rarely have to water my garden .. It is at the bottom of an embankment and the cemetery is above (eek..)

I also collect and eat random wild food .. Like fiddle heads, bamboo chutes, cat tails, and buffalo berries.

The one I wanted is a harbor freight .. I think it is 10 x 12 and I am afraid it won't be big enough because my garden is about 20 feet long ..

I can't identify one thing wild in my yard and it is killing me because it is in mass amounts .. They look like wild carrots ..but I think it is hemlock that looks pretty identical ..

**Glad we are talking!! .. I now know when to buy the greenhouse .. [link to m.harborfreight.com]

Re: 1000 year old Anglo Saxon text gives cure to MRSA ...
The recipe comes from this book, Bald’s Leechbook.

There's only one copy in existence.

Now if the recipe works, what else could possibly work in the book?

One cure for headache was to bind a stalk of crosswort to the head with a red kerchief. Chilblains were treated with a mix of eggs, wine, and fennel root. Agrimony was cited as a cure for male impotence - when boiled in milk, it could excite a man who was "insufficiently virile;" when boiled in Welsh beer it would have the opposite effect. The remedy for shingles comprised a potion using the bark of 15 trees: aspen, apple, maple, elder, willow, sallow, myrtle, wych-elm, oak, blackthorn, birch, olive, dogwood, ash, and quickbeam.[7]

A remedy for aching feet called for leaves of Elder, Waybroad and Mugwort to be pounded together, applied to the feet, then the feet bound.[8] In another, after offering a ritualistic cure for a horse in pain requiring the words Bless all the works of the lord of lords to be inscribed on the handle of a dagger, the author adds that the pain may have been caused by an elf.[9]

In March 2015, the Leechbook made the news when one of its recipes – which included garlic and the bile from a cow's stomach – was tested in the United Kingdom as a potential agent for use against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).[10]

Garlic juice ya? .. I usually buy garlic willow oil but can make the oil .. I will have to look up the juice ..

When I have strep throat I gargle lemon juice .. If the kids have it they need lemonaides or sluhshies .. I think garlic is more powerful or the combo would be great :)

Thanks! I am gonna look it up!
