For all those interested, as I am, the quake that hit off of Hoshu Japan in 2011 started out as a 7.3 on 3-9-11. It had several aftershocks and was a large part of the reason they didn't see the 3-11-11 quake coming. They assumed it was a single earthquake and not a sign of things to come.
Interestingly enough, on the same day (March 9th) Papa New Guinea had a 6.5.
On March 10th China experienced a 5.4 and Indonesia/Malaysia had a 6.5.
These fault zones have always been connected. If I lived anywhere along any of these zones I would be very concerned with the increase of activity as of late.
No idea what happened immediately before the 3-11-11 quake. Still looking for some sort of record of aftershocks.

I knew there was a way to pull this info up but I'd always gone about it the hard way. I wanted to see if the foreshocks intensified or became more frequent before the big one hit. Was actually the opposite. Good to know. When they reached 3 hour intervals the quake hit. Also good to know.
