NATO have been gearing up with a wall of missiles pointed towards them for years now and it's only getting worse (NATO's involvement in Ukraine).

It is pretty significant threatening one of the founding members of NATO and it shows a lot nerve. Denmark is not some former soviet republic here. Threatening Denmark not to join is like threatening Canada not to join. Russia has no territorial claims on Denmark no matter how much the Putin trolls try and spin things. Denmark isn't any more in Russia's backyard than is Canada.
