Completely Off Topic: Question about mixed color beards
A little background...

I will be finishing college in May, and early this semester I decided to grow out my facial hair to see what it would look like before I have to look presentable for job interviews.

Throughout the majority of college, I was forced to shave every day when I was part of the university’s officer training program (started off as a military school), so I had never gotten the chance to grow it out. Even when I showed up at 18 and had no hair on my face, I still had to shave by the numbers every day with everyone else.

Anyways, here is the deal...After growing it out a few weeks, I found out I have a mixed color beard (which I read is fairly common).

But unlike the hair on my head which is light brown, the hairs around my lips and on my chin (think goatee) are almost completely white. Not even like a pale blonde, it is white. You could maybe mistake it for blonde from a distance because of my skin color, but upon inspection you will find very white hair.

And the rest of the hairs that comprise my beard are even darker brown than the hair on my head (cheeks, sideburns, on my neck), almost black. And to top it all off, unlike the the semi-wavy hair on my head, my beard hairs are fairly curly.

So I guess my question is this…. I have shaved long enough for my hair to darken and coarsen from the “peach fuzz” I grew as a teenager, so why at almost 23 would I have so much white in my beard?

I have googled it in every way I know how, but I haven’t found anything like my situation, as the most common mixed beard colors are red/brown/black combos.

Any GLPers out there have any experience or knowledge that could help out? It would be very much appreciated!!

And shaving doesn't make your hair thicker or darker, that's always been a myth.

Hmm, interesting. I have done quite a bit of family research, and I don't believe I have any Irish in me.

And there is no red in my hair at all, not even a shade of it

Don't worry about it. Just let it grow out.
However it grows and whatever colors are
in it is what makes it unique and yours.

Yeah I know it supposed to be a myth, but there sure seemed to be a big difference after not seeing your hair grow for so long. And before I started shaving regularly, my peach fuzz definitely wasn't this color.

It actually doesn't bother me, but I appreciate the sentiment.

I really just want to know why it is this way.

One article said it may be indicative of something wrong health wise, or related to a traumatic event that caused a lot of stress. But idk

For me that seems more likely, I had normal hair color in my beard and it started to occur about that time, I'm only 23 as well and already have some silver hairs. They started getting that color around that time, too.

Possibly way back down the line...my fathers side is English and actually a fairly significant bit of Native American (I qualify for the scholarship). My mother's side is straight German

Re: Completely Off Topic: Question about mixed color beards
I had brown hair on my head and a blonde, red ginger beard when I was young. Around 30 ish the red blonde started turning white first.

Now at 51 the beard is all shocking white except for the moustache area which stil for now contains flickers of red blonde. My hair of which im fortunate to still have is half white half dark. Surprisingly my eyebrows have remained fair throughout for now. My chest hair is overwhelmingly white although the hair on my legs and arms remains blonde.

Don't worry about it. It's nothing serious look to your family history and somewhere you will find the same has occurred. Chill out.

This is a manifestation of mosaicism. In this case, it is similar in form to a witch's lock but instead of being on the top of your head, it is in your facial hair.

55 female, I used to be blond, now it is part dark, part blond, part red and part grey. I guess it is just normal to be mixed up. If you want normal color, be normalaly abnormal LOL. All one color looks fake anyways.
