Check your vitamins for "Folic Acid" and if present -- toss them! Government poisoning you since 1998 with this.
So you want to be healthy, fight off disease, you take your vitamins dutifully---

Yet, did you know that the Folic Acid in your fortified cereal, bread, and vitamins even that cherry Emergen-C is poison.

Colon cancer on the rise, Prostate Cancer, Folic Acid is a man made crystalline structure not found anywhere in nature. It can only be converted into Folate the natural form in tiny amounts. The excess stays in your body and excites the growth of precancerous cells.

[link to www.doctorsresearch.com]

Excessive Folic Acid is Becoming a Health Concern

A 2010 report states, “"The more we learn about folic acid, the more it's clear that giving it to everyone has very real risks," says folic acid researcher David Smith, PhD, a professor of pharmacology at the University of Oxford in England…The risk experts worry about most: colon cancer.

Last year, health officials in Chile reported that hospitalization rates for colon cancer among men and women age 45 and older more than doubled in their country since fortification was introduced in 2000.

In 2007, Joel Mason, MD, director of the Vitamins and Carcinogenesis Laboratory at the Tufts University School of Medicine, described a study of the United States and Canada suggesting that rates of colon cancer rose — following years of steady decline — in the late 1990s (around the time our food was being fortified)” [13].

The same report also states, “Other research links high doses to lung and prostate cancers. In one study conducted in Norway, which doesn't fortify foods, supplementation with 800 mcg of folic acid (plus B12 and B6) daily for more than 3 years raised the risk of developing lung cancer by 21 percent.

Another, in which men took either folic acid or a placebo, showed those consuming 1,000 mcg of folic acid daily had more than twice the risk of prostate cancer.

And a new worry recently came to light when scientists discovered the liver has limited ability to metabolize folic acid into folate — which means any excess continues circulating in the bloodstream. "Unlike folate, folic acid isn't found in nature, so we don't know the effect of the excess," says Smith.

Indeed, many scientists have grown increasingly concerned about mounting research — including a study published last winter in the Journal of the American Medical Association — suggesting that all the extra folic acid might increase your odds of developing cancer” [13].

This might be another reason people just do better to avoid bread products and all foods that are fortified--

Since 1998, folic acid has been added to most enriched bread flours, cornmeal, pasta, rice, and other grain products in the U.S. and Canada.

[link to www.hsph.harvard.edu]

Unmetabolized folic acid can cause health problems for all people that don’t show up for many years.

It can decrease natural killer cell cytotoxicity and impair the body from responding to arthritis, cancer and anti-malarial drugs.

In the elderly, who often have B12 deficiencies, folic acid can cause cognitive impairment and anemia.

And while folic acid can have a protective effect against certain cancers, it can accelerate the growth of tumors already present.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 61722791

It is not so good for pregnant women. That pregnant woman has a 50% chance of having the MTHFR gene mutation in which she can not use the man made "Folic Acid". It circulates as a poison.

The natural form "Folate" is better, and eating lots of fresh leafy green vegetables.

Recently, there have been some troubling studies connecting folic acid supplementation with breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers:

Women who followed the typical recommendations to take folic acid during pregnancy and were followed by researchers for thirty years were twice as likely to die from breast cancer.5

Another study following women for ten years concluded that those who took multivitamins containing folic acid increased their breast cancer risk by 20-30%.6

Folic acid supplementation by pregnant women has been associated with incidence of childhood asthma, infant respiratory tract infections, and cardiac birth defects.7-9

Men who had taken folic acid supplements for more than three years had a 35% increase in colorectal cancer risk, according to a meta-analysis of several randomized controlled trials.10

In a 10-year study, folic acid supplementation was associated with more than double the risk of prostate cancer compared to placebo.11

In two trials comparing folic acid supplements to placebo, overall cancer incidence and all-cause mortality were increased in the folic acid group over the 9-year study period.12

In contrast, food folate is associated with protection from cancer and other benefits:

Women with lower levels of food folate intake are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer.13

Food folate intake is inversely associated with prostate cancer risk.11
The children of women who consumed more food folate during pregnancy were less likely to develop ADHD.14

Synthetic ascorbic acid is in around 99% of vitamin C supplements. It's a dirty little secret not many people know about.

So if you think you're taking actual vitamin C, then you better think again because you are not. You're taking a chemical concoction that's concocted in some secret lad on the east coast. Good luck finding pills that are ascorbic acid free.

The hook on why the can call it vitamin C is because they claim it's been proven that ascorbic acid in any form wards off scurvy.
So those C pills you're popping are worthless. In fact they're bad for your health.

True about Fluoride, but Folic Acid can kill you, the cancer link is real and sheds light on why our rates of prostate, breast, colon cancer are going through the roof.

Folic Acid has been added to our food since 1998--

This information needs to get out there, most people believe this "Folic Acid" is good for you.

The key point here is that Folic Acid is man made and not healthy for anyone.

Folate is the natural form found in greens and is good for you and essential for DNA replication.

Folic Acid does more harm than good because even in a healthy individual without the MTHFR gene mutation the body can only convert a tiny amount of "FOLIC ACID" to folate.

The federal gov mandated this, folic acid was then added to bread, cereal,. It was a required supplicant drs were to require pregnant women to take during pregnancy, & promoted during breast feeding. They increased levels in baby formula.. This was a masdive mandated campaigne. It reached into all parts of our diet, actual went out and tested breads & others in list that must contain high levels.. There were even news stories when manufacturers failed those tests & hadn't maintained the high levels.. So we also pay watch dog to insure compliance.

Currently 81 countries require fortification of industrially milled wheat flour.

All the mandatory countries fortify wheat flour with at least iron and folic acid except Australia which does not include iron, and Congo, Venezuela,

the United Kingdom, and the Philippines which do not include folic acid.

Lol bullshit. I know I'm low on folio acid because my mouth will erupt in canker sores. They go away with topical application of folic acid and taking one pill.

not to mention, the article is mentioning levels of folic acid that nobody shpuld be taking. It should be common knowledge that we need these things but there is a limit. Taking too many vitamins is bad for you. Duh.

Very interesting, I never heard this before, thank you OP. Here in Europe it is drummed into all pregnant women and those wanting to get pregnant to take a 400 mg folic acid supplement per day in order to prevent spina bifida in the baby. But if you check the following link:

[link to www.spinabifidaassociation.org]

it seems the spina bifida association doesn't even know what the exact cause of the birth defect is. It is indeed strange that folic acid supplements are promoted as a matter of course (and even using guilt trips, as in "you wouldn't want to be responsible for your baby being born with a preventable defect") and over any other supplements a pregnant woman could or should take.

I'm starting to really believe that one should interpret official guidelines using not only discernment but the 180 degrees rule: when they say you should, you'd better leave well alone, and when they say you shouldn't, assume it's actually good for you and incorporate it in your diet! lol

The hook on pretty much all vitamins is they are dead sterile nutrients, if they contain any actual organic compounds at all. This is very bad. Humans are designed to consume live or freshly killed or picked foods.
The whole industry is pretty much worthless and in this day and age you can easily get access to a balanced diet in this country.
I've stopped taking bottled vitamins long ago after finding out about what's actually in them and the havoc they can reak on a persons system.

So if you thing you need some vitimin C, eat an orange, you'll get plenty of that naturally occurring ascorbic acid that they claim will save you from scurvy. and you'll be far more healthy for doing so.

Supplements are a dirty, dirty business, stay away IMO.

[link to thepaleodiet.com]

This is a well written informative article about the addition of "Folic Acid" into the diet of every man, woman and child in the USA in 1998.

Mandatory fortification has benefits and risks. It is effective in helping prevent neural tube defects, though the level of effectiveness depends on baseline prevalence and folate status of the target group. It is equitable in that it passively increases the folic acid intake of everyone who consumes products made from fortified flour. Its key practical advantage in achieving effectiveness and equity, that it passively exposes the target group to increased folic acid, is also its key disadvantage, in that it indiscriminately exposes everyone in the population to novel levels of a synthetic vitamin for the rest of their lives.

The indiscriminate nature of mandatory fortification exposes this policy option to concerns about its public health risks. Its action in increasing the population's folic acid intake has been described as a form of 'uncontrolled clinical trial' (23), and as a 'double-edged sword' (24).

The ethical justification for mandatory fortification is weak.

It is not proportional at the population level, it is not necessary, it has a high level of infringement, and rarely has been publicly justified.

Relative to alternative policy options, mandatory fortification has more public health benefits except for preventing recurrent defects.

In these cases supplementation is the most effective and equitable policy, as the necessary 4-5 milligram dose, ten times or more higher than obtained from fortification, could be made available, and intended recipients would be aware of the need of it.

Alternative policy options have not been evaluated to the same extent as mandatory fortification for their effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. The ethical justification for alternative policies, which are voluntary fortification or supplementation, or nutrition education or making no changes, is stronger than for mandatory fortification.

It is critical to match a potential policy option to the underlying cause of a policy problem. The degree of alignment of a potential policy option with the underlying cause of neural tube defects is predictability of the extent of public health benefit and risk, and ethical considerations. Supplementation is the policy option most directly responsive to the evidence of causation.

The second lesson is the importance of local circumstances in influencing the case for the different policy options. Countries with relatively high neural tube defect rates, low folate status (especially if associated with anaemia) and a high proportion of unplanned pregnancies, are likely to achieve a higher reduction in neural tube defect prevalence (and anaemia prevention) from mandatory fortification. This is by contrast with countries that have a relatively low defects rate, high folate status and low proportion of unplanned pregnancies. Differential impacts should guide assessment of public health benefits and risks, and ethical considerations, associated with each policy option for any particular country.
