I'm disabled.. How will I get a mortgage so that I don't lose our family home?

Take out an insurance policy so when they pass the house will be paid off.

It is difficult, even with good credit, to get a mortgage in your name only, with no co-signers, if your only income is SSD. Besides mortgage companies, a lot of other lending institutions will not give any type of a loan to anyone who's only income is SSD.
This is because if you would default on the loan in the future, they cannot force you to pay if your only source of income is SSD.The federal law states that ANY type of Social Security payments are not garnish-able by any creditor EXCEPT the government. Yeah, if you have a defaulted student loan, owe the IRS, etc, they CAN take a chunk of your social security away from you until you have the balance paid for.
Also interesting to note, that you cannot be a co-signer for a loan for anyone, if your only income is SSD. This is because of the law, which states as above, the creditors cannot touch it.

I cant say I am happy about it, because it is unfortunate and saddening. I'm not sure about the life insurance policy due to our fathers last bout with the cancer. Meh.

Your father is still alive? Ask him if he has a mortgage and /or mortgage insurance. If he owns the house with no mortgage and you inherit it, why would you need a mortgage other than death taxes, and I admit I know nothing about that in your country.

You don't inherit debt. The estate either pays off the mortgage or it sells the property to recoup.

If he has a mortgage, it has been law that you must have mortgage insurance or the mortgage is so old that very little is owing. which is it?

Did a google search. In Canada you cannot get a mortgage/loan against your property/house unless it is insured for death.( there are qualifiers if you pay a certain high percentage down) And in many cases you are required to get disability insurance as well. It is an add on It appears to be possibly a supplement you buy in the US. I don't know after looking it up.

All my life owning a home I have never worried about death, my house will be paid and I can leave a clear, paid off home to my kids or whatever. I feel for you if that isn't the case where you live.

If this is an issue the question becomes why you're spending money on GLP? Sort of counter-intuitive don't you think??
