I keep the Decaration of Independence at work, most of the time. I always have pocket Constitutions sitting around for coworkers. It's amazing how much interest there is in them. People eat up, like it's something new. People just have not been taught about our founding documents. Given the opportunity, they will try to learn about America the way we are supposed to be.

Yeah that just goes right back to the original post being that people have forgotten about independence.

Sadly the vast majority of people don't think there is such a thing as being outside the system. They've never heard of such independence that wasn't derided as being crazy or part of an apocalyptic movie plot. Should some hapless modern soul wander outside of the system long enough to wonder if they could do that themselves, chances are very good they would quickly flee the honest hard work required be truly independent. Those who have heard about this bizarre thing called "independence" mostly just live vicariously though their favorite reality TV show about other crazy people doing that.

What is truly sad is that many in this country have no idea what document these words come from nor the history behind it and the struggle and violence that secured Liberty.

We make our way secure in the rights bestowed upon us at birth because those rights are inherent.

The INDEPENDENT nature of man, to hack his own way through the wilderness FREE of the enslavement of an overpowering government or the will of a KING, is paramount.

We are not equal in means or property, but what we do have is OURS, and does not belong to the government, to a lord or a king.

People need to study history and understand that, at that time, the King saw the colonialists as nothing but peasants and slaves. In fact, every true "Englishman" viewed colonialists as not their English brothers but rather peasants in service to the King.

Study history.

You'll discover that ever rich land owners were nothing but wealthier peasants.

You'll find out that British soldiers would be "billeted" or housed in people's homes or simply take the house over without any lawful way to fight let along protest the action.

Such insubordination could get you lashed in the town square or worse and you would still lose your home and everything in it if it was the will of the King or those who were acting in his stead.
