Barrett Brown conviction another sign of death of journalism in America...R.I.P. It was the final phase of a criminal prosecution that at one point threatened Brown with more than 100 years in prison, as a result of his work on thousands of files hacked by Anonymous from the servers of HBGary Federal and Stratfor, security intelligence firms and government contractors. Through the online collective he founded, called Project PM, s. The HBGary hack revealed a coordinated campaign to target and smear advocates for WikiLeaks and the Chamber of Commerce, while the Stratfor hack provided a rare window into the shadowy world of defense contractors. Barrett Brown conviction another sign of death of journalism in America...R.I.P. As I said earlier, this is not my forte, this cyber-underground stuff. I just heard a news-blurb about this case and figured GLP would be all over it. When I searched I saw not a peep since the charges in August 2013(!) I thought WTF? I'm quite suspicious of the Michael Hastings 'accident' and the recent David Crowley 'suicide'....how many journalists or film-makers will be discouraged from telling the TRUTH now that they know it may cost them their lives??? Fight On, TruthSeekers! A brave man only dies once. These fucking cowards die a thousand times. Sol Reflector |

I was trained in a real newsroom in the 90's and am just now finishing my degree, but so many of the kids in the program are so fucking clueless We have a section of the class discussion board where we can talk about current events and other items. I have tried more than once to engage fellow classmates...seriously, NONE answered. I see that so many are choosing to use blinders... You are so right, NOT A WORD. OMG...this is very huge. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. The silence is deafening, all right, and it's also deliberate. It's all fun & games until the Dogman stands up Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy Shit! What a ride!" In times of trouble, I ask myself, "What would Sarah Conner do?" |

Barrett Brown conviction another sign of death of journalism in America...R.I.P. Just by happenstance (and pure boredom) last night I relived the Great Honshu Earthquake thread as it happened on GLP. Wow, what a crazy day that was! Unfortunately, 95% of the YT vids posted have been erased, censored, deleted or the user accounts rescinded. DON'T make the mistake of thinking that the internet is some permanent record of anything REAL, only those things which are there to indict YOU later. Quoting: Sol Reflector If this Barrett Brown decision stands, I really don't see any website like Godlike Productions being around for too much longer. Unless it submits to Chinese-style censorship restrictions, it will surely disappear into the 'memory-hole' forever. I'm beginning to wonder if we're not there already?!? MODS, are you awake yet? Censorship is nothing new on Glp! Just saying! It's to late for the Americans to wake up! You have been lied to for ever. You are as programed as the Chinese, just in an other fashion. |

Barrett Brown conviction another sign of death of journalism in America...R.I.P. Hahaaha...I almost wish there WAS SHILLS! The SILENCE IS DEAFENING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn man, you waited 35 minutes before you went ballistic! You got to give people time to see a thread before you start railing against them for not responding. It might take a day or two for people to get to it. Like me, I had the window up all night and am just getting to it now. I haven't had the chance to review the case yet, but it's hard to see how publishing a link alone can be anything other than protected speech. Would publishing the address where a crime had been committed be a crime? Would describing the route a getaway car used to flee a crime be a crime? Seems ripe for appeal, and a switch of lawyers. Anyone else notice more and more cases that almost sound like they have to have been sabotaged by the Defense Counsel to have lost? I thought that EFF even had a few precedent setting cases in this regard. Barrett Brown conviction another sign of death of journalism in America...R.I.P. Democracy Now has an interview with Barrett, but by merely posting a link to the story any one of us could also be indicted on spurious charges by the government for doing so. Do you get it? By being quiet, you are complicit with tyranny, by showing support to the first amendment you are the enemy. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65823068 I've had a chance to go over the case now and one thing I wanted to point out was that this was a plea deal. He plead guilty to the charges. So if you want to know who's responsible for setting this precedent, it wasn't a jury or the judge. In large part It was Mr. Brown and his attorney. aHEMagain "And once again, Probability proves itself willing to sneak into a back alley and service Drama as would a copper piece harlot." -- Vaarsuvius, The Order of the Stick [link to tvtropes.org] "History doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme" -- Mark Twain "It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence.-- William Clifford [link to myweb.lmu.edu] |
