Ehhh... The founding fathers were obsessed with protecting the federal government from coups (that's why they were so opposed to standing armies), and had no problem using military force to collect taxes.

They were all hardcore Christians and lots of them believed in state pensions, employer funded healthcare and free education.

They were far less ideologically monolithic than folks pretend as well.
